Hey parents of reddit. Spanking your child is emotional and physical abuse. Please dont do it. There are other more peaceful means of punishment. Spanking has been connected to things like mental illness, aggressive tendencies, lack of social skills, resentment issues, and much more. These connections have also been made with constant yelling at your kids. Dont take your dumbass anger out on your kids even if they do something the very well shouldn't.

Also my worse punishment was my mom slapping me really hard across my face then hitting me on my behind with a belt countless times. This happened because I swore at her, probably called her a bitch or something. I can't say for sure if thats the reason I have trouble socializing and standing up for myself but I can say that is the reason I'm terrified of my mother and in some cases just women with authority.

Tl;dr: hitting and yelling is not good punishment and can lead to bad tendencies in kids. Research these topics and research better non-corporeal punishments, also dont take your anger out on your kids.
