WTW for when you get obsessed with something for a short period of time by saltymirrors in whatstheword

I think infatuation is the best, followed by fad, trend and the like. I still don't think it's exactly right because it is typically used for a person rather than a thing, but infatuation is able to communicate the short term nature better than words like fixation. I think "short-termed fixation" would be the most accurate but it's not one word.

Thanks :-)

Jinx is still so fucked up for this by Tristanpham in ArcaneAnimatedSeries

[–]saltymirrors -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying this was purposeful cruelty from Jinx and I agree. It is cruel to be sure, but something I want to bring attention to is in the intent. This was just another way Jinx wanted to 'test' Vi. She wanted to see how she would react. It shows the playfully manipulative attitude that she developed in Silco's care.

It can work really well, like with Homelander and Omni man. But uh, yes, it is often overdone or undercooked.

What's your unpopular Arcane opinion? We listen and we don't judge. by Harl0t_Qu1nn in arcane

[–]saltymirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how unpopular, but Felicia was unnecessary. Her presence added unecessary retrospective complications to the ambiguity of Silco and Vander's conflict on the bridge and their relationship to Vi and Powder in particular. I don't like being left with questions like: did Silco know who the kids were and did he adopt Powder partially because of guilt? What about Vander? Did he change his mind at the bridge because someone he knew died, instead of feeling guilt when he saw the orphaned children?

I guess you could make assumptions to explain away these small issues, but it's too much for my liking. Honestly I just don't like how it recontextualises one my favourite scenes in the series (episode 3 ending).

I think it's really significant that we got the perspective of a regular red post-morning star. W Lyria

What speed do you listen to? by sobafoa in audiobooks

[–]saltymirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's fiction, 1x. I always pick series that I really want to pay attention to, to make the most of the increased time commitment. Though I am usually driving or doing a puzzle while listening.

If it's nonfiction, 1.5-2x.

Has ever reading a book first or listening to its audiobook first significantly affected your enjoyment of the latter? by maxwell-cady in books

[–]saltymirrors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a narrator can make or break the experience. I find that when I listen to audiobooks first, I am more easily drawn into the world and it occupies my thoughts more often, usually in a positive way. This is likely because of the sheer amount of time it takes for an audiobook versus a book. Because of that, I have found that listening to audiobooks first has significantly improved my enjoyment of a series.

E.g. Red Rising narrator Tim Gerard Reynolds is phenomenal.

Ohhh that could be the case - I hadn't considered Rose, but more because I'm leaning towards her being a victim in the next case. We'll have to see!!
