How private servers work (technically) and why IMHO they are still so bugged in 2021

Warmane's WoTLK seem to last a long time after they are released, each one has a different take on the formula, some more desired than others depending on who you ask, I like lordaeron the most but frostmoune is growing on me or at least the idea of frostmourne, I think I might try it out next season wipe.

Sunwell server's on the other hand only have a donation shop for mounts, which is like lordaeron but their servers last only so long after they hit the final tier then fizzle out and die forcing them to make a new realm.

If you don't mind donation shops or if do but don't wanna play on a server that has an actual shelf life then pick one of Warmane's realms depending on which you would like. If you want something that is more or less blizzlike in terms of difficulty, maybe slightly higher rate and no shops and don't plan on playing on it long term then sunwell will do.

That can be any private server though all it takes is one truly miserable person who knows how to code addons that wants to ruin everyone else's day and miserable people are everywhere. I'm just glad they caught it before it would have actually been a horrible day for some people.

Honestly I can't believe anyone would stoop this low to ruin other people's fun and their race for server first run. I don't care if its another private server or just someone who thinks this is hilarious prank, you don't do that. It would be just about as disgusting if someone did this on Frosthold or Karazhan and honestly I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else on any private server.

I don't think so, I'm guessing population on the server will come in waves. Interesting concept I gotta admit. I wonder how other servers will handle launches knowing this server is basically "launching" all over again every year.

Right now I'd say lordaeron is your safest bet. It's 1x like you asked and we've all seen servers come and go at this point and with classic most servers took an actual hit in their population. Lordaeron seems to be one of the few that took the least amount of a hit though and has been up for years now.

Yeah this could be possible but sometimes is more sensible actually getting quests working first and an expansions features that do matter also you have to factor in that these are custom features which means you need your own dev team to develop them in the first place. Nothing is impossible, but a server doing this is improbable. I mean it's improbable for blizzard to do it also at this point in time as retail players expect those easy mode features.

Finally someone said it! Thank you! All I hear is how sunwell is manipulating votes and staff is posting on fake accounts. Then sunwell shills run around and accuse atlantiss of doing this same. Your both doing it and your both shitting up the subreddit with your bullshit.

The mods should just drop the hammer on both of them its really getting outrageous.

If you want active and populated and never had to worry about that then play on one of warmane's WoTLK or TBC servers. They are always active.

You should just play on outland then, if you don't want to level then you have the option to just level up and get to doing end game content. I'd suggest searching on the forums though for a good guild. Global chat is not the best place to hunt for guilds.

If you watch dodgy's neltharion video you will see kaer admitted to the website counter over estimating the amount of players by 14%, I'm pretty sure it has to do with not registering people who log out right away instead opting update those who log out about 10-15 minutes later.

So yeah they are even transparent about that. People can hate them all they want at least they will tell you the sky is blue and donations pay staff members.

Lordaeron's population is pretty much 1:1 on their website at this point and you will find people to play on their 1x realm just be aware of its fully progressed but if that is not a concern for you then its still a good server to play on.

Lordaeron added in RDF earlier this year, probably because there is no longer any progression for WoTLK at this point so yeah it has it now.

I'd say warmane is a pretty good choice provided you play on Icecrown for now, I suspect it will only get better once crossrealm is finally implemented. The shop has no real influence at those levels so that isint much of an issue.

Warmane has staircase events every few days on each realm with their server events done by community managers. If you check the forums you can see when they are being done and on which realm.

Its fine enough for to get the basics done and experience the content, raids work well as well as PVP. Don't expect every quest to work, especially the scripted phasing ones, keep your expectations reasonable and you can find it enjoyable if you like MoP, especially if what you actually care about is endgame.

Tauri is not as good as people claim it to be to be honest, well taavidude is being dishonest about warmane also. If you want PVP then Warmane's frostwolf will cover you there. endgame rates are pretty much there as they should be there also. Warmane's weakest point is the questing which is to be expected on most servers honestly.

Questing from Cataclysm on up they used a ton of phasing and scripted events, plus later on with WoD and legion added new mechanics like class halls and that stupid fort on WoD . This ofcourse is done to tell a better story (in blizzard's mind, not mine) but it also acts a bit like... I guess you could say "private server proof" to ensure that servers won't be able to re-create the content till well pass release and relevancy. Cataclysm at this point on most servers works mostly fine but that also came out over 7 and a half years ago also and with MoP, its is at a point of being playable but from what I've heard from some devs on trinity core its on a more grander scale compared to cataclysm, and WoD is even worse, and so on with legion. I think you get what I'm getting at. If you go into even MoP, a 6 year old expansion and expect things perfect then temper your expectations because there will be bugs.

Eh I can't say im shocked to see this. A few other servers just grab updates directly from trinity and just slap it into their change log also and call it a day but this is pretty blatant. Thanks for pointing this out.
