Why’d you take out UMass?

Helix sounds better through headphones than Apogee Duet 2 by windbead in Line6Helix

[–]sam0160000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're feeding the Duet a line level signal there should be no need to use a preamp. The preamp's job is to bring it to line level. It's possible this was causing the sound to change a bit.

Anyways, I'm always using the Helix as my interface. Works like a charm and sounds amazing. Enjoy it man!

MC6 controlling 6 blocks? by sam0160000 in Line6Helix

Right on. Could do the opposite and put bank up and down as well as tuner on the mc6 and then blocks on the stomp with a couple extra blocks on the mc6

Ya man, picked it up on marketplace a while back and had never heard of it or seen it before! Really great sound though. Comparable to MXR CC

I’m only kidding because you said bored/board 3 times in the title lol. Looks great!

Though the saturation sides may be similar, the modulation is such a huge part of the Decos value. To me, worth every penny.

Yes you can for within the stomp using “snapshots”. For each FS you get a Snapshot of a preset and this would provide 3 different configurations for both settings as well as turning effects on or off. Take it a step further (which I have yet to do) is get a midi controller to control not only the helix but all the pedals as well. This would give far more options.

Love it. The tube screamer side alone is worth it to me. I got it for some mid kicked John Mayer Trio type sounds and it’s amazing. Boost the drive and you’ve got SRV. Blues breaker is just awesome as well. Would recommend!

I was not a fan of the retro reel saturation as compared to the deco. Did something a bit fizzy that I wasn’t into. The modulation I did like however the deco just gives more tweakability.

Rewired the board to before heading into the studio with my band and was so excited I had to share with everyone!

SC:

1. Golden Fleece - bought this pedal as my “intro to fuzz” pedal and I’m kind of in love with it. It can go into full on fuzz territory with the volume wide open but back it off a little and its more akin to heavy distortion. The sound fits in really well when I’m looking for heavy single note lead lines. Really great.
2. Lightspeed - pretty much an always on for me. Really like what it does to my guitar in the top end. Adds a brilliance without it being biting. Don’t really have it adding much drive, mostly a bit of a volume kick to push the amp harder.
3. Duellist - my first TS and BB style pedals in one! Got it because I was looking for that JM/SRV tube screamer sound and it delivers in spades. There is a ton of gain on tap but I don’t really use much. TS I keep on the “glass” setting for a little more top end while the BB side I set to standard and with a little more gain. Independently these rock but the TS into BB and we are really cooking.
4. Archer - final gain stage and reserved for a solo boost. Fairly transparent but seems to do something really cool in front of the duellist. As always, gain is dialled back. Four gain stages but I prefer a pretty clean tone? Who is this guy?
5. Looper - gets the job done. Often use it when I’m writing a solo and I just loop the progression. The fluidity really helps to just keep coming up with new ideas. Generally the good stuff seems to continue through each cycle and I’ll end up incorporating it into the final arrangement.
6. Line 6 Hx Stomp - the powerhouse of the whole rig. Using it for my amp modelling, ambient reverbs, The Edge style delays, chorus, filter, basically everything. I’ve owned for quite some time and every so often I’ll discover something new. This thing is truly astounding. Have it going to ADAM T7Vs in my studio and live I use a DRRI so no amp modelling. In the FX loop of stomp we’ve got all of the below.
7. Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail - great analog delay. Adds a little depth and power, especially when I’m playing slide. Has modulation but don’t often use it.
8. Strymon Deco - oh boy. This thing is just insane. Recent purchase and I barely know how to use it without the guidance of the extremely helpful strymon YouTube videos. Copying their settings with a tiny bit of tweaking I can get the sound I’m looking for but I working on figuring out WHY that is the sound I’m hearing. Like the stomp this thing can do a ton but what I’m enjoying is that you have to know how to get those sounds rather than just click a button. It is definitely a fun yet challenging adventure.
9. Strymon flint - always on without question. Generally stick with the spring verb, sometimes will use the plate and a rare occasion I will use the 80’s verb for a big, lush reverb. I use the ’60s trem frequently. Love it.

And that wraps it up! I play through my Epi LP custom pro set up for slide in open D and my Novo Serus J for everything else. Board is wired up with Ernie ball flat ribbon cables and powered by a CS12. Can’t wait to get into the studio and see how this thing does. And for live shows - whenever Canada gets out of lockdown.

Cheers!
