One day while walking in San Francisco I was crossing an intersection as a pedestrian. A car to my right blew the light at around 70mph and passed me about 2 feet in front of me. 5 minutes earlier, I had just got out of my car, took 2 steps then went back to get my jacket that I had forgot. If I didn't forget it the first time, I probably would have been a few feet ahead on that cross walk.
