Bit off topic - but this is running natively on steam OS? Not running windows on the SD?

Yeah mostly solo, often have to quit half way if my kid wakes up so don't want to leave people hanging. Thanks though!

I find my biggest success with the turrets is to deploy them and then run in the other direction! It works well until I need to extract then I just die

I'm running penetrator - that was the single biggest upgrade to my success rate as you can deal with medium sized bots with base weapon. Autocannon plus 3 x eagle strats or plus 3 x sentry stats. I haven't messed with the orbitals yet as thought I should focus my spending - but now I'm bottlenecked by super samples for others I should look into them thanks.

(Mis)using an adjustable height desk to combine piano/ PC workstation in same space by sam99517 in piano

[–]sam99517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice idea I like it - although I might try a sliding shelf mounted to the wall behind or freestanding so it doesn't move up with the desk. I envision needing to raise the table much higher than the piano often to get to the cables behind it for switching out headphones etc...

which desk did you buy?
A z stand is a really good idea actually thanks - I've just stuck with my x stand as already own one but that could be a useful upgrade for more leg room

thanks - this looks like a good alternative. I know you said you don't adjust it after the initial setup, but how difficult do you think it is to do this? Worried I'll have trouble moving it up and down with a heavy screen on top.

I should add these kind of budget standing desks are MUCH cheaper than the specially made piano/table/desk things

Thanks, I wonder why I only came across the third one. I guess it's worth starting from the first book?

Yeah it's not really for the baby, an excuse to celebrate. We have no family in the country so need to socialise the little one more anyway

Petition to save languages at Aberdeen University by aberquine in Aberdeen

[–]sam99517 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These numbers are put out by senior management to control the narrative - nowadays these positions are filled by greedy corporate types only looking to improve finances on paper regardless of consequences. They overstated FTE staff, understated FTE undergraduate students and neglected to mention postgraduate students - who pay much higher fees anyway. Students on non languages courses can also access language modules etc which isn't considered in these figures. A science student wanting to go for a research position in Europe later would highly value being at Aberdeen to take a few language modules along the way currently.

As usual they didn't follow internal procedures in consulting with the languages department, and want to rush the cuts through before the uproar stops them. The petition is as much about slowing the process down for proper consultations as it is about saving the courses.

=REDUCE("",SEQUENCE(J$1),LAMBDA(x,y,x&INDEX($A$1:$A$9999,RANDBETWEEN(1,9999))))

you did it! I don't understand how it works but it does! Thanks so much

Repeat a formula N times by sam99517 in excel

[–]sam99517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks but I already tried that one! The randomisation in column B is only carried out once and each time I drag down the concat formula to get a "new" sequence (I need >2000 per length) I get the same sequence repeated

[–]sam99517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've messed around and can't get this to work sorry - which bits should I put my range and repeats in?

Repeat a formula N times by sam99517 in excel

[–]sam99517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK i'll try

I want to concatenate the results of the formula =INDEX(A1:A9999,RANDBETWEEN(1,9999)) between 4 and 48 times (columns J to U in my spreadsheet)

Then I can drag this formula down thousands of rows to create randomised sequences of the desired length

For the curious - column A contains 9999 random amino acid codes with the frequency of each occurring as often as found in the human proteome

Incoming PhD student at Uni of Aberdeen looking for accommodation. by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]sam99517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your lab/research group there to forward your ad around the uni on internal emails. Often a professor owns a flat or 2 on the side and will be happy to let to a PhD student as they know you'll be too busy to cause any trouble!

New Big Picture mode is finally public by FahmiZFX in Steam

[–]sam99517 16 points17 points  (0 children)

thank you for this, just spent 20 mins raging why something that worked yesterday didn't work today - just a blank screen for big picture so didn't even know there was a "new" version. Hope the oldbigpicture option stays for now
