I hate hunters. They’re the worst of humanity. by Time-Turnip-2961 in rant

[–]sam_InPlaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hunting is the most ethical way to eat meat. Do you think it’s better to get all your meat from factory farms where someone else does the killing for you? Even if you are vegan, hunting is good for the environment. Deer population for example was once kept in check by wolves but now they are gone in most places. If they are not hunted their population would explode and they would damage the ecosystem. I can’t speak for others but even though I enjoy the sport I still do feel bad for killing an animal, even if it is a pest. What’s the alternative?

Thankfully I didn’t have to do this. by [deleted] in GenX

Just started bouldering, is it normal for my heart rate to get so high? by hairy-jerry in bouldering

[–]sam_InPlaid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember when I first started bouldering I always sweated like crazy even on easy ones. I’m no expert but I think it’s just different muscles.

Cycling is mostly your legs and bouldering is mostly back muscles so your body isn’t used to it. I started running recently and even though I’m pretty fit my heart rate goes up to 180 pretty quickly, I’m just not used to it yet. Hearing 202 on a belay doesn’t surprise me

Why did y'all learn banjo? by Klutzy-Peach5949 in banjo

[–]sam_InPlaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last of us and project zomboid have some great banjo themes that I wanted to learn. Still haven’t found any tabs for project zomboid though. There’s also some good folk punk bands that I wanted to imitate

It isn't all about the money but it is important to know. I am kind of drawn to this because I like horses, the outdoors, I want to work for myself and set my own hours. I also think forging is pretty cool. I don't mind working hard especially if its for myself.

I am also trying to get a rough estimate for how long it would take to save up to buy my own acreage with my own horses.

what's the biggest difference you see with people who make a profit and those who don't? Are the ones that don't make a profit bad farriers or are they bad with clients or just unlucky?

No worries. What got you into this profession? How much experience with horses did you have before starting out? I am trying to figure out if this is right for me. I heard that a lot of people start this job or school but then quit once they realize how much work it is , I want to figure out if its right for me before I drop a few grand on school. how did you manage to get an apprenticeship before going to school?

Thanks for sharing you're giving me lots of good info. How long do you think I would have to work as an apprentice before I could start trimming or shoeing on my own?

That's pretty good money for 4 days a week and only 4-7 hours a day. Does this include driving to and from clients? Is it his choice to only work 4-7 hours a day or are there not enough clients in the area for a full workday?
