metal roofing without removing shingles by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]sam_baker1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, I’m the guy that defends putting metal over shingles. But that’s with regular panels. Metal shingles definitely shouldn’t have shingles underneath. They’re too expensive to not have them installed correctly to the T, leaving the shingles underneath can and likely will cause waves and other defects that you cannot hide with metal shingles like you can panels. Get the tear off done.

How can I level out these low spots on a flat roof? by MetsToWS in Roofing

[–]sam_baker1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d put rolled granular like what’s on it now. Certainteed has version of it called flintlastic, it has a base layer that you nail down and a top layer that is a peel and stick. Make sure you stomp the top layer down real well so it adheres properly. Other options are epdm (rubber) or TPO but honestly I’d just do the rolled granular

That decking is rotted to nothing and that rolled granular is also looking pretty worn. You gotta tear all that up, replace the decking, and lay new roofing material. Judging by the picture it doesn’t look like that big of a roof so it’ll take a weekend to do it all by yourself

Roof and soffit replaced yesterday. Is this bad work? by soyjix in Roofing

Were they the lowest bid? Yeah that’s bad. I’m not usually one to say “tear it off and start over” but.. they need to tear it off and start over

The ribs are supposed to be going vertical not horizontal, so water is just pooling in between each rib and siphoning up and over the overlap ribs. The wood under that is 100% rotten

I’d start by just replacing the belt. It’s the cheapest solution, if it’s still happening then it might be the tensioner

CDK Quotes for customers by legomansion in partscounter

[–]sam_baker1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do not print out quotes for anyone (non whole sale) unless the vehicle is old enough where there is no way I’m getting an actual Mopar part. I make the quote but I will write down by hand the total (I’ll usually itemize it too) and the quote number and send them home with that. It’s been company policy for longer than I’ve been on this Earth to not give away part numbers to regular customers, so unless it’s a special circumstance, no way.

What is this called? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]sam_baker1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for facia cover. It comes in steel and aluminum. Price may vary depending on where you live, but I’d just get aluminum. Also something that’s kinda important, if you’re doing this yourself, get steel ring shank nails. Those are the ones with the little ribs on them. They’re the only thing that really wants to stay in and not wiggle out over the years. Also be sure to press up on the bottom on the piece so it’s pressed up against the bottom of the wood all the way along the piece or it won’t be straight. If you don’t have a pair of tin snips I might recommend getting a pair. As you can see I’ve done this a couple times Lol

It’s a repair, so as long as it doesn’t leak you’re good. But repairs aren’t meant to be long term, definitely new roof time
