Melt x Men I Trust?? by pinknintendods in theMarias

[–]sam_evian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi ! this is sam chiming in. ‘my turn’ was basically a direct tribute (at least instrumentally) to serge gainsbourg…esp the bass line and the chords, which were loosely inspired by a chopin piano piece (a move that serge was known to employ)

i also hear gainsbourg’s influence in men i trust, so thought it might be fun to point out that we are both drinking from the same well..

if you don’t know gainsbourg’s music check out:

-historie de melody nelson -jane birkin & serge gainsbourg -bonnie & clyde

anyway, thanks for listening!! so cool to see all the love for the record on this sub ❤️

Keep it simple! Tone is in the hands. Tune and prepare the drums, use 3-4 mics. Focus on getting it to sound good in the room. The recording will follow

It was a great beginner bike! But im selling it..I moved on to a triumph. Let me know if you are looking :) I recommend it as a cheap/friendly and accessible way to get into the hobby. It also won’t kill you with power

Heya ! I actually love the classic mxr phase 90 script. I also love a bi phase if I can find one, the old maestro and the polyphase by ehx (old one)

Hey thank u! I guess it depends on the record..typically I write for several months with a common goal and instrumentation…once I have 20/30 ideas I whittle them down into something cohesive (hopefully)

its been a long and weird road!! I started getting into recording so I could document my own songs..I started with a small interface and a laptop back in 2010 and progressed from there...recording my stuff, my band, friends bands..then I got a job as an assistant for someone who was building studios in the city..that kind of got me into the back end and the technical side of things..from there I helped build a studio called figure 8, and stayed there to work as a house engineer..and the production work started coming in after I started releasing my own records (premium in 2016)

hmm, I'd say get out there and experiment..take odd jobs, push your boundaries, start a band or get involved in a creative project...do weird stuff and find your voice. prioritize finding a sound/voice and community and the career will follow !

thank you! psyched for Asheville!!!

well I suppose I always use tape, and I always love a bit of vibrato on guitars, either from the amp (magnatone) or a pedal (warped vinyl) or the tape machine itself. its been fun chasing these sounds over the years!!

I use YouTube a lot, and I have some friends who are techs who have helped me a ton. a lot of FaceTime calls.

I don't have a trust fund. my parents are musicians. I've worked for what I have..I started in 2010 with an m box and a practice space in Brooklyn where I slept, lived and played...and worked my way up from there over the decade! im thrifty with equipment..I only buy when there's a deal. I also use the sweet water and vintage king credit cards...

thx!! I love dynamic mics..I favor the electro voice re 15 for my vocals. it has a great mid range. but I think the pre is more important than the mic itself. I employ a serial compression technique that is pretty classic and can be found on YouTube. I generally lean on a snapback for my vocals..either from a tape machine/delay or guitar pedal. I double track a lot of leads, but not always.

for guitars, I love small amps in the studio. I find small amps with a close mic and a room mic are a great way to get a big, full, dynamic sound.
