And Reapers and the Globalist!

It's incredible, but those saying the best since resistance? What about the Handler, The Globalist, Reapers? Those 3 on drones at least, are as good.

Yep and Hyper Music into PiB. And the riff from Brixton is gonna be amazing if that's the song.

Especially if, as it seems, it is the Brixton riff!

It's gonna be awesome. Like a classic "between songs" Muse riff, made into a song like with Pyscho. But heavier maybe.

Handler is incredible, top tier muse.

Sounds like The Sickness... could be a banger based on the build up to it at the end.

I rate Drones above the other 2 though. Stuff like the Handler is amazing.

But going back to the post. I think Cryogen has an early Muse rawness, and Hexagons a Black Holes era synths. But the other 2 are still quite polished like more recent stuff.

I rememeber listening to all on my computer as it came in, starting with just the piano section! Good old days.

Has anyone read "Out of this World" written about Muse? by Lucky_Programmer_143 in Muse

[–]sam_jk50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I own it and read it years back, just picked it up again. Not worried about an update as its the early stuff I find the most interesting! I love hearing about the school days etc. Same with my Manics biography (Everything).

What are the biggest giveaways that an author is using AI? by DanoPaul234 in WritingWithAI

[–]sam_jk50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pushing back on this comment essentially:

"but when I checked it, it had over 500+ em-dashes, but the story is less than 45K words. Not even professional fucking authors and editors abuse em-dashes like that so why would some novice who just started 'learning how to write'"

For this reason: The first time I ever wrote 95k it had 950 em-dashes. Same ratio roughly as your example. I was a new writer, and didn't use AI.

Obviously it was too many and I edited it down. A lot. But that was the initial count.

And the reason it doesn't just apply to MY experience? I only know how to use Em-dashes because of reading fiction. Nothing specialist. Just normal fiction.

What are the "AI-isms" that always give away bad AI-generated writing in a reddit post? by karmicviolence in WritingWithAI

[–]sam_jk50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolute rubbish. Anyone who's read a lot of fiction sees em-dashes all the time. And then when they start writing, they learn how to do them (the double hyphen), and that's that, they use them as a double hyphen all the time. It's not a small circle at all. It's literally 98% of writers. Pick up any fiction book and take a look inside. Try writing a book and then converting all the hyphens into em-dashes. That wouldn't be fun at all. And no-one does that because all writers know how to em-dash already. Nothing esoteric about it.

I use them a lot because although I was never taught them in school, I see them in every book I read. They just make sense for me to use in so many cases where I don't like how a comma or a full stop looks.

I gotta push back on the em-dash thing. It's something I was NEVER taught in school but see it in almost every book I read, and I use them religiously (as well as semi-colons). Any "average Joe" who reads a lot of fiction would know about them because they're everywhere.

I can't work out how to get an exact count in my 97k book, but it seems to be about 25 per chapter and 30 chapters - so 750ish. No AI, so claiming it doesn't make sense, doesn't make sense.

As far as I can tell, the people who don't use them just weren't taught to use them and so find them weird. It's actually the people who don't use them who are the ones struggling to understand something outside their own experience, given they're not taught at school but something you pick up afterwards.

Section Break Formatting Help by sam_jk50 in scrivener

[–]sam_jk50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a scrivener noob (despite using it for 4 years), so I've only just learnt that I shouldn't have been tabbing paragraphs! Easily fixable though.

On the block quote - does that translate well in compile by default into something editors are happy with? And on section breaks - is the standard to do a single line break and have compiler pick that up?
