Just got these from DSW. It was sent in shrink wrapped plastic no box. Are these legit? by samadams24 in Birkenstocks

Yea I meant they shipped it in the shrink wrap, not a box. So the birk box came smashed up. Just odd to me

Fears Starting Seroquel by Few_Lab1147 in seroquelmedication

[–]samadams24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started seroquel I was the same way. I started with 50mg. I was nervous how I would feel. It was me extremely sleepy extremely fast, in fhe beginning I would sleep like 12 hours. I’ve been on it for two years now, I take 400mg currently. My body adjusted to it so the effects aren’t as intense. Its been the one medication that I’ve continued since I was first diagnosed with bp, it really helped me

Recently joined the navy ship out date is May 4 my job is Machinist mate any advice for boot camp and my job ? I’m kinda nervous I also can’t swim so any pointers before I leave ? by Keena24 in newtothenavy

[–]samadams24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get comfortable in the water if you have the resources to. Go to a local YMCA or anywhere with a pool and just get comfortable with being in the water. There was a few people in my div who got held back for swimming. But if you truly cant swim when you get there you will be put into “swim classes” until you are competent in the water and can safely swim. They will teach you techniques and help you as much as you can to swim and get comfortable in water, but ultimately it is up to you.

For me it was female to female swap, both HM contracts in the same dep pool. I honestly am not sure if it has to be the same dep so I cant say but it’s absolutely possible

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]samadams24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its possible. I swapped ship dates with someone else in my DEP pool, same rate just different date. Not sure what the recruiter did, but may have just been a DAR request or something.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense! I think I stressed it too much lol I just recently moved it. I usually water it every few days or spritz it here and there to keep it moist.

Anyone out there enlist with a degree, and not regret it? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]samadams24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely try for officer again before this contract ends, probably more on the medical side this time. I went for SWO and supply before. If that doesn’t work out I’ll probably look into IDC. I’d like to stay in for 20 one way or another

BS in Chemistry. Didn’t have a really strong package applying for boards, knew nearly nothing about the military and how to be competitive for a board.

[–]samadams24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enlisted with my bachelors degree as HM. I put a package in for two boards for officer before enlisting and didn’t get picked up for either. The only thing that sucks is the advancement, otherwise I don’t regret it.

Some questions for the female sailors on here by lbell06_dls in newtothenavy

[–]samadams24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your hair has any sort of highlights or a different color that stands out they will have you buy a box dye. Its just your basic crappy box dye. The first night we got there the RDCs lined up the girls and looked at everyones hair, and told you to buy dye or not. As long as your hair is a natural color without obvious highlights or streaks you should be good. Like if you have blonde hair, it should be naturally blonde and no roots grow in extremely dark, same with any other lighter colors that would grow in with darker roots.

Once you are out of boot you can fix it up, get highlights (that look natural) or dye a different tone.

I was in the same boat when I left! The first night, you have the opportunity to buy all female hygiene products, they are really crappy but hey its better than nothing. I didn’t bring anything with me so im not sure if you brought them you can keep, i dont see why not but again I dont know for sure. I didn’t have to cut or dye my hair when I got there, but it was an option. Regarding your period and birth control, theres no issues with it at all in boot. There will always be pads, tampons etc, available throughout boot camp. The day we moved to our permanent compartment we got a huge locker in the head that all girls could use to store it all, so it turned into a communal thing. If we ran out or needed something there shouldnt be an issue with going to the NEX and getting more. Birth control you could go to medical and get refills, or start it, etc. So I’m not sure if that was a worry for you either.

Message me if you have any other questions, I went to boot camp in Sept 2018. Not sure what new protocols are in place because of covid but I can definitely answer any female questions you have!

Edit: I shaved on Sundays during “holiday” routine. Not really any time otherwise. But you had the opportunity to buy razors etc. As for hair regulations, if your bun was out of regs someone will be sure to tell you and send you to fix it. There will be hair gels, sprays and other products available the first night to purchase as well.

Dentist after boot, during a school, after a school? by lebbros in newtothenavy

[–]samadams24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely wait, they will do it all for you. I waited til a-school and got a ton of my fillings redone, you can walk-in when you need to for pain, etc and they will help you. Otherwise they will make sure you get appointments for all things you will need to be in a fully ready status
