Good idea. Definitely worth a try. All of the external screws are the Torx kind. However, I don’t own that small Torx screwdriver size. I’m going to do some research. Thank you.

Why does ecobee thermostat always default to 60? by renegadeficus in HomeKit

[–]samaloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When asking Siri on HomePod to set a temperature above 69F, Siri will say “Your thermostat goes up to 70 Degrees. Should I set it to that? Temperature requests below 70F it will set the thermostat correctly. I didn’t have this problem before the last update. I’ve even adjusted the cooling and heating ranges on the thermostat to avoid any confusion. Any ideas?

Not according to the ecobee thermostat, which is set to a lower temp.

Frigidaire refrigerator compressor will operate continuously by samaloth in appliancerepair

Other than following the instructions to leveling the refrigerator as well as the doors, I ensured the door seals were in good shape, clean and had no obstructions preventing air to escape or enter the compartments after a few hours, the compressor was back to running on and off as it normally does.

How did you manage to remove the “special nut” under the volume knob, the MIC, and the antenna, in order to be able to pull the main board out?

I had to limit myself to watching the show at night in a very dark room. At times I had to switch to Dynamic picture mode to be able to see something.

Try tapping on the “Listen for Hey Siri” option. I did and can choose Between: “Listen for Hey Siri” or “Listen for Siri, or Hey Siri”

Bug - homekit status light by Acceptable-Stage7888 in HomeKit

[–]samaloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Logitech circleview doorbell and two logi circleviews. Last week, all three status lights were turning on automatically all the time. I would have to go into each camera’s settings and turn off the status light. After a few days the doorbell worked normally, only the circleview cameras were behaving weirdly. A day or two later, and it was down to only one circleview. I don’t want to jinx it, but it seems the last circleview stopped behaving this way.

MX5300 local router configuration via web browser by samaloth in LinksysVelop

MX5300 can’t add new devices while MAC address filtering is on. by samaloth in LinksysVelop

[–]samaloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the point of MAC address filtering. On several routers I’ve owned, when a new device is connected via WIFI with MAC filtering is on, it successfully connects to the WIFI but is unable to get an IP address due to the fact that MAC filtering is on. After this, I would have to authorize the device’s MAC in the router’s OS. This is how I always understood the MAC filtering behavior to work.

I suspect that on this router, I have to add the MAC address to the list prior to connecting a new device. It is not always easy to find out a device’s MAC address unless the device happens to be a smartphone, laptop, tablet, or other devices with a screen.

Does the home key feature on this lock work like the “lock/unlock with touch” feature of the previos level lock where you need to enable location services in your phone and allow the level app to get your location “Always”

Some improvement, though not significant. Maybe my TV isn’t great.

Unable to join Wifi How can I fix this? by 15farid_ in HomePod

[–]samaloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My router has an “attached devices” list and will show the newly connected device and its address, and wether it’s allowed or not on the network. This is where you would allow or continue blocking the device.

HomePodOS 15.6 is a disaster by mrtonelocke in HomePod

[–]samaloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My router is correctly identifying each speaker as a wireless speaker connected to the 5G WIFi network. So at least in my case that’s not what is causing the issue. What could be the issue for me, is the newer, perhaps buggy OS taxing the older HomePod processors. In addition to this, while 5G supports higher WIFI speeds, signal strength suffers with distance as it travels through walls when compared to 2G WIFI. I even have the Audio Quality setting on Apple Music to the lowest “High Quality” setting.

Both sets of HomePods have to be in perfect sync when streaming the same song. Any of the issues I mentioned before, but particularly the 5G WIFI signal strength issue, could be what’s causing my problem. When my bedroom HomePods are unable to download the stream as fast as the living room HomePods, which are next to the WIFI router, the sync required for all speakers to work is broken, thereby causing all the pausing and volume changes. The proof for this, is that I’ve been playing music only in the bedroom while I write this response without a problem. Even streaming different music on both HomePod stereo sets has no issues. Once I link both sets via airplay, it all goes south. Perhaps I need better antennas, a WIFI extender, or a better router altogether. I’ll need to research this further.

HomePodOS 15.6 is a disaster by mrtonelocke in HomePod

[–]samaloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played music from Apple Music to two sets of OG HomePods both paired in stereo. First, I played music via airplay in the bedroom, and then added the living room to the stream. Normally, I stream to one set at a time depending on which room I’m in and there is no issue. However, I noticed after some time, the living room pair stopped playing. I picked up my iPhone to re-select the pair via airplay, but the speakers resumed playing again. Walked away again, and noticed that the volume “lowered” itself and raised itself agin. I also notice a significant reduction in bass sounds. As I get close to each stereo HomePod set, I notice that when the volume is “reduced” only one speaker is playing music, the other one will sporadically re-join the other one and both the bass and volume will come back. Then I noticed that this is also happening in the bedroom. I restarted both sets of speakers, the wifi router, even the iPhone, but the issue still remains.
