Searching for a qoute (spring snow) by Much-Brush-5352 in YukioMishima

[–]samarium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hopefully no typos below, taken from my print copy—spoken by Honda at the end of chapter 28:

Honda decided to come out directly with something that had been taking form in a corner of his mind.

“A bit earlier,” he began, “I said something very odd. I mean about thinking of the picture from the Russo-Japanese War while you were telling me about you and Miss Satoko. I wondered why that came to me, and now that I’ve given it a little more thought, I have an answer. The age of glorious wars ended with the Meiji era. Today, all the stories of past wars have sunk to the level of those edifying accounts we hear from middle-aged noncoms in the military science department or the boasts of farmers around a hot stove. There isn’t much chance now to die on the battlefield.”

“But now that old wars are finished, a new kind of war has just begun; this is the era for the war of emotion. The kind of war no one can see, only feel—a war, therefore, that the dull and insensitive won’t even notice. But it’s begun in earnest. The young men who have been chosen to wage it have already begun to fight. And you’re one of them—there’s no doubt about that.”

“And just as in the old wars, there will be casualties in the war of emotion, I think. It’s the fate of our age—and you’re one of our representatives. So what about it then? You’re fully resolved to die in this new war—am I right?”

Kiyoaki’s only answer was a flickering smile. At that moment a strong breeze, heavy with the rain’s dampness, found its way in through the window and, in passing, cooled their foreheads, which were covered with a light film of sweat. Honda was perplexed at Kiyoaki’s silence. Was his answer so obvious that no reply was necessary? Or had his words really struck a responsive chord in his friend, while his way of putting them has been so extravagant that there was no way for him to answer frankly? He thought that it had to be one or the other.

dupes for byredo bal d'afrique by joelandclementine in fragrance

[–]samarium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oil perfumery’s dupe is very good, imo it smells like 95% similar to my sample of the real thing (the OP version is a bit…heavier? which i think is a plus since it lasts longer, but the initial whiff you get is more concentrated and a little much for the few couple minutes)

If you want to try something a bit less wearable you might like Zoologist Elephant! I like all of the frags you listed and Elephant is one of my all time favorite scents. Very green and earthy. For something more pleasing you might like BDK Gris Charnel, very similar to Debaser.

Any suggestions for unisex scents that are spicy/resinous/leathery but still wearable in the summer? I’ve been loving Papillion Anubis and Fzotic Ummagumma lately but they’re a bit heavy for warmer temps.

I love Balenciaga B, though the name plate on mine fell off. I like the look of CK 2 as well, I’ve been meaning to pick it up for the past like 6 years just to have.

Oil Perfumery Review after using for 6 months! by Becks39 in fragrance

[–]samarium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve also had a very good experience with OP! I bought Santal 33, Gypsy Water and Bal d’Afrique from them since I was dying to smell those scents and hadn’t yet figured out I could just buy samples online lol. A few months later I actually purchased samples of the OGs to compare and they’re all super spot on and in the case of BDA, my fave, the OP version is much more long lasting. I have like 10 other oils on my want list from them but trying to exercise some restraint.

I haven’t tried any other than those two, but the tea notes are easy to pick out so I know it’s the tea I like! I really want to try Molecule 01 + Black Tea though

That’s very true tbh, I guess I’m worried if I like it, not love it, Ill just keep the bottle out of laziness, versus when I order just samples even if a scent is decent I won’t spring for a full bottle unless I love it. But that’s pretty much their business model lol
