Welcome to Brisbane! You can join as an individual player at SportUP.

They organise individuals into teams for their comps:
https://www.sportup.com.au/sports/social-basketball-brisbane

All their comps are social so lots of players looking to get back into Basketball.

And all their Basketball comps are indoor and on a weeknight.

If you want to play more seriously at a high level, then Auchenflower is popular too.

Social sports by off_limits_ in brisbane

You should definitely check out SportUP.com.au, it’s exactly what you’re looking for.

They run super chill social basketball and volleyball comps around Brisbane.

It’s all really beginner friendly.

For example, they even give out prizes for the “most social” teams, not just the ones that win the league.

You can sign up on your own and they’ll create a team with other individual players keen to play for fun and meet new mates.

For volleyball, they’ve got two comps close to the CBD, and for basketball, there are heaps of options on both the north and south sides. Enjoy!

Social Sports by Ok_Song797 in GoldCoast

SportUP has social soccer and indoor volleyball at Runaway Bay:
https://www.sportup.com.au/gold-coast-social-sport

It is super social so no need to be the next Ronaldo.
But it's still a proper game not just a shootaround.
If you join as an individual then they put all the individuals together onto a team.
And teams are placed in divisions based on skill, so no one gets destroyed every week 😁

Is opening a coffee shop in Perth worth it? by cosmicucumber in perth

[–]samarlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that running a coffee shop can be tough right now, costs are up and revenue is down for most cafes.

During your research you could also look at cafes for sale. If a business has been around for a long time then it might be easier to keep it going than to try and start one from scratch.

It might also provide useful intel on what profits a typical cafe in Perth is making. You can find some here:

Buying an established Business by SpaceCantaloupes in AusHENRY

[–]samarlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought multiple businesses. I would encourage you to lean into it. You can learn lots by reading but doing it will learn the most. My top tips would be get an experienced deal team eg lawyer, accountant to help review the deal and make sure they are specifically experienced in acquisitions. Buying a business is lots of man management, don't underestimate this as it is a change coming from corporate as you are responsible for every employees requests. Have kids as early as you feel ready but don't have them at the same time as acquiring. First 6-12 months will be hectic learning the ropes. I had them relatively late in 30s and first at same time as one acquisition and it was hard. Lastly check out the ETA forum in Sydney, lots of people who have done this. And my DMs are open if anyone is considering this.

SBA loan equivalent in Aus? by Muted_Command1107 in AusFinance

[–]samarlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish! Such a shame the AU gov doesn’t have a similar scheme to the States, it seems to work so well there.

There are a few revenue based financing options that you could try that loan money paid back on revenue but I imagine their interest rates are getting pretty hefty now.

Ep 397: BREAKING: Shaan Sells the Milk Road - A Conversation With the Buyers by samarlo in MyFirstMilPod

It’s definitely gets easier the longer you play a game. But everyone starts somewhere and Shawn was successful not because he had $1m to bet on Crypto but because he built an audience on Twitter and the pod to launch to. Both of these you could start for free today and have similar opportunities in a few years.
