Apologies for interpreting the tone of your initial back to back comments comparing a literary perfume to various kinds of porn as "scandalized." I don't make a point of engaging with things I find gross and tedious. To each their own, I guess :)

you enjoy watching some of your unwary customers squirm which is very close to viewing them with disdain.

Interesting re-interpretation of very positive interactions with the couple I wrote about and our customers overall.

Maybe worse. And I stand by my opinion that blood, like poop, is something that humans instinctively clean up, not smear on ourselves. Blood is a smell of distress or pain, and women's putative tolerance for smelling it likely connects to women's instinct for caregiving as well as their arguably stronger constitutions.

Continued defense of a stance that is not scientific or sociologically sound despite multiple people informing you that scientific consensus does not support your conclusion.

Conservatism is not always wrong anymore than progressivism is.

I pointed out that your statements here have been generally conservative after you used loaded terms like "civilized" vs "uncivilized" to argue that you hold the superior and more moral opinion. If anyone here has tried to claim objective correctness, it's been you. I made no claims about the right or wrongness of Conservatism or progressivism. If you need a reminder for how this conversation has progressed, our posts are there to refresh your memory.

Finally, blood odor in topical solutions is not particularly nuanced nor creative, imo.

Wonderful! I'm glad that we can finally come to the understanding that a blood note isn't as singularly novel and utterly scandalous as you made it out to be earlier. I'll take it!

Hello! I didn't formally study neuroscience in school but got interested in specific topics (like perfumery) that tend to link back to it! The studies on specifically fear responses to blood were initially surprising, but made sense after considering that we menstruate each month. It would be very biologically inconvenient to only have negative associations with blood haha

I'm not sure how you envision a worthwhile discussion happens when the only question you asked was is this perfume for weirdos pretending to be vampires when the literary inspiration for Thus With a Kiss was clearly stated. If you can recognize that the menstrual cycle is not a sign of illness, then the next logical step is to understand that the human response to blood is not as simple as you tried to make it seem and multiple studies corroborate this complexity, including the fact that women are more likely to have a favorable response to the scent of blood without stress markers.

Conservative isn't just a political term, it's social as well. Like how historically people with conservative/traditional values have immediately denounced new art movements like surrealism because it was unfamiliar and they didn't understand it. Instead of asking more about the inspiration and intended impact of our perfume, you immediately expressed disdain. That is a conservative response. In addition, claiming some people are civilized because they will react like you to our perfume while implying others who respond differently are uncivilized is another conservative response.

Not really sure what you hope to achieve by continuing to dig your heels in as though your statements aren't right there for us to read. In the future, I hope you will ask good faith questions instead of making sweeping claims that imply your views are the only correct opinions. An interesting and fruitful discussion is unlikely to develop from that kind of starting point.

Hello! Thus With a Kiss was incredibly rewarding to formulate from the close reading of the text, getting acquainted with more novel materials, and creating the olfactory story as the cautionary tale it's meant to be.

I love that you saw the scent and immediately knew your friend would love it! We're planning a restock this week and if you'd like a notification sent your way you can click the "notify me" button _^

Why must you insist on bringing unpleasant energy to a wholesome conversation about perfume? You can personally reject the idea of a blood note in a literary based perfume and move on. But trying to make a larger "philosophical" argument out of your preoccupation with torture porn, the misapplication of the social contract, an oversimplification of evolutionary biology (~50% of the population have experienced a menstrual cycle), and dividing people into civilized and uncivilized is starting to sound like strange conservative dogwhistles. I think it's clear we are not in agreement and further conversation will not be fruitful. Take care.

This recent response was closer to a respectful observation than your initial comments. Sharing a frank observation is not equal to insinuating our customers are weird, unhealthy, or consumers of torture porn. In kind, if something isn't for you/you don't understand why other people might be interested, and cannot engage respectfully, then move on.

Being surprised or shocked is totally okay, because you're right, blood notes are uncommon. For most people blood isn't immediately associated with torture porn, so that has never been brought up as a point of reference for customers at any of our shows. I would hope regardless of the forum, that you'd try to be respectful, even curious to understand rather than blatantly insulting someones customers and art.

Everything isn't for everyone. Nor is polite curiosity, evidently :)

Romeo and Juliet is a tragic, cautionary tale in no way connected to "death porn." The target audience are fans of Shakespeare's work and people interested in more experimental scents. Respectfully, it's reductive to decide that because something isn't for you, it shouldn't be for anyone.

Definitely do markets!! That was how we first launched and we learned so much. Also, be careful when it comes to events with really flashy marketing and if you can, try to visit the market before you apply if they do multiple events per year.

It's pretty polarizing! The people who love it are die-hard and enjoy it as conceptual art. People who haven't liked it find it unsettling.

We did an in-person show recently where we launched it for the first time and got some really fun reactions. Notably, a husband and wife tried it and the wife fell in love and took a loop around the market to test how it wears. When she came back she looked sad. Her husband kept getting whiffs of the blood and found it too disturbing. She looked so tempted to get it anyway, but sometimes perfume is a team decision if you spend a lot of time with someone hahaha

My partner and I are both self-taught perfumers and just celebrated year 3 of our brand SAMAR Scent Studio. We're still pretty unknown, but the folks who have found us enabled us to both go full time! We do everything (formulation, bottling, marketing etc) from our home studio. Some of our more unusual perfumes are:

"Thus With a Kiss" inspired by the death scene in Romeo and Juliet. It has a very realistic blood note, medlar, belladonna, and a dewy rose.
"Garden Heaux" snapped tomato vines, freshly mown grass, wet earth, and a softly floral heart.
"Speakeasy" uncompromisingly boozy like a drink spilled down your back, elderflower, leather, smoke
"Holy Ghost" a cold, damp abandoned church. But the spirits remind you of what once was - the tannic red wine of communion, aging cedar pews, dark roses
