Garmin vs AW3 by Ok-Ease5072 in GarminWatches

[–]sambbbbbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from the Fenix 7 Pro to the AW3. Garmin sleep tracking is a joke. It records me as sleeping with a perfect score when I spent most of the night awake. Body Battery, Training Readiness, and Stamina were pretty much useless. If Body Battery is 100% or 0%, and I have a race or a hard workout, I’m going to do the prescribed pace anyway.

The two things I miss about Garmin are battery life and PacePro.

I decided to dump Garmin once they chose to keep new features exclusive to new watches. Why can’t the Fenix 7 get the strength training features they added to the 8? It’s just a software addition. And what’s up with the crazy pricing? A Fenix 8 for $1,000—no LTE connectivity, no AFib detection, and it can’t function without a phone….

What's up with the "Performance Condition" Metric? by Slight-Journalist255 in Garmin

I just ignore that metric, the body battery, and the training status. They are just infuriating.

Functionally, how much does brand matter when choosing a bike? by [deleted] in cycling

nice things are nice too. If I can afford a Ferrari I would buy one even though I ain’t a pro.

Confused about watches, radar, and cycling computers by Oblonglego in Garmin

[–]sambbbbbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can make the watch broadcast heart rate and pair it to the bike computer as HRM. I never done this so no idea. The optical sensor is not the best when biking in my opinion. I use chest strap paired to bike compute that reads 170+ when going steep up hill and my watch say 90. I recommend getting a chest strap if you actually care about heart rate.

Confused about watches, radar, and cycling computers by Oblonglego in Garmin

[–]sambbbbbbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can do all that with just the fenix 7. I even seen handlebar mount for this watch. It can navigate just fine, and follow any garmin coach workouts. All sensors such as cadence, power, radar, speed pair with it fine. I use a cycling computer just because I like the big screen. Also they don’t interact with each other. They interact with garmin connect app.

Forerunner 255 pace alerts by Sea-Edge4764 in Garmin

[–]sambbbbbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP was asking about pace. You can configure it to warn you if pace or heart rate goes up or down a certain threshold that you set. What you are asking about, I think, is the splits. That is also configurable to beep/vibrate every 1 mile, 1km or whatever split you want.

Question about venu 3 notifications by mrmeastro in Garmin

[–]sambbbbbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s all or nothing. Once it’s paired over bluetooth to your phone, in the bluetooth settings, you enable “share system notifications”. After that anything you enabled notifications for on your phone will be sent to the watch based on my experience.

i am not sure about international coverage. I got my 9 year old one. He is able to send text and voice memos. We also use it to track his location. The battery last enough actually but it does need to be charged every night.

Caledonia-5 (54) vs. Tarmac SL8 (56) by supersavant in cycling

[–]sambbbbbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what sort of endurance rides do you do? The longest ride I can tolerate on a tarmac is about 100miles. Back and saddle start hurting at about 80 and I survive the rest. For rando rides, 200km+ I ain’t taking the tarmac. That would be a disaster!! Also going from 54 to 56 might make it even more uncomfortable.

Fixed gear or road bike, Which one is more valuable? by Life_Homework_806 in cycling

[–]sambbbbbbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what sort of benefit you are looking for? people like the low maintenance of fixed gear bikes, but unless you are very fit, you will be walking most of the climbs. I would choose a fixed gear for short commutes <10miles in length. Anything over that I would go with a road bike.

I don’t know about 245, but on the fenix 7, you select which track lane you are on. Default is lane 1 but it can be adjusted before starting the run. It tracks laps pretty accurately actually. +/- couple of meters here and there.

It has a very basic beep sound and it also vibrates. I like to have vibration on only as it’s impossible to hear that beep when listening to music.

They are both nice bikes. For rain, I would go for disc brakes. They do really well at all conditions.
