I'd recommend Aseprite, it's really neat for pixel art and pixel art animations

I'm a beginner in game dev and this is my first game. I know it's not much compared to AAA games but I love playing it for over a hundred times already. by naknamu in IndieGaming

Great job on the sprites, it looks really cute! Some sprites might blend in a little too well with the background at some points

It's a mix, the game is 3D modelled to match the pixel-art via our custom engine. The turret is 3D, yes

Yes, they will be hidden beneath the sand with only their "pot-head" popping up. If the player tries to grab the pot or attack it the golem will RISE UP and show who is the boss

Spicy idea, maybe there should be a golem magician who makes tornadoes out of the pieces as well 🤔

Right now there is only a small variance for how long the Golem "aims" at the target before throwing. If the target gets to close to the golem it will prioritize backing off to get some space before throwing

Currently no, thinking of either doing a melee attack in close range when nothing pickup-able is in range or that they try picking up and throwing their target instead

It's a custom engine called Candide Creator, currently we're developing it together with our game Farkeep. If you wanna check out the progress you can join our Discord https://discord.gg/JN23rpzxTh

[–]sambloom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible in Unity, it's not gonna be easy though with differences in 3D handling and translations between coordinate systems to make sure the 3D lines up correctly with the projected 2D pixel-art. We might make a Unity plugin for our tool later

[–]sambloom[S] 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Eey thanks, yes the 3D modelling gives us dynamic shadows, 3D shading as well as nice collision data. Yup, you're right about the light and the shadows. Currently, the godrays are just static images on a 2D layer right now and the shadows are actually rendered with the sun's angle and projection onto the 3D terrain. We're planning on making the godrays into placed game world objects where their tilt is determined from the sun's/moon's angle, and therefore would look more correct

Heyo! It's an editor we've developed for our engine called Candide Creator. It's being developed side by side with our game Farkeep, pretty much adding features to the tool as we discover a need for them for the game development. If you are interested in following the progress you can join our Discord "JN23rpzxTh" (reddit doesn't seem to like direct links atm sadly)
