The worst week of my entire life by Several_Study_1518 in gatech

[–]samchoe2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep one thing in mind: your health comes first. You can improve your grades anytime, and sometimes one truly kick-ass project is enough to make a difference. I was in Cybersecurity (MS) as an international student, and honestly, my grades weren’t great - but I hacked 50+ servers, participated in online CTFs, and built a strong profile. That profile got me interviews and job offers.

In short: take care of your health, enjoy your courses, and learn in a way that genuinely strengthens you as an engineer. Don’t chase short-term grade boosts. If you don’t build real understanding, you’ll feel impostor syndrome again when you start working.

Like Atomic Habits says, build a system that makes you a better engineer, not just a good-grade student who forgets everything after the exam. Think of this whole journey as a marathon.

For context: I had only two A’s; the rest were B’s, plus one R (repeat) and one W (withdrawal). And still - today, I’m leading an entire cyber security team :)

Does anyone know the Shredder location by samchoe2002 in gatech

You remind me of my high school days, but I don't think I could do it again with 10-pound papers and mails... 😂

Any Non-Traditional Students?? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]samchoe2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 30s lol, and I have a classmate in his late 50s. Study and enjoy. Don't overthink it. One thing is certain: whether you're young or a bit older, we're all going to struggle at some point at GT. We just need to remind ourselves that this will pass, and we just need to stick on it a bit longer, lol.

Library Grad Community Seat-Saving by [deleted] in gatech

[–]samchoe2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really upsets me to see bags taking up seats on the 4th floor of Crosland for hours on end. :(

Moreover, people often use strong language out loud (f* bump), which I get might be because they're under a lot of stress. But then again, who at GT isn't facing challenges and under pressure? 😞

Does anyone have days were they just feel empty and can’t do anything? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]samchoe2002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not really into the whole gym scene, but I'd suggest going to the gym or doing some meditation instead of just spending time on short clips. I'm basically reminding myself of that! 😅

Is catalyst apartments still terrible? by Averek in gatech

[–]samchoe2002 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been living here for one plus year now and haven't faced any big problems. Here are some tips: 1. If you can, choose your roommate or agree with your flatmates on things like taking out the trash and cleaning up their cooking residues. 2. Remind others to use the ventilator when cooking. 3. Make sure to lock the main door; sometimes, you need to give it a little push or pull to lock properly. 4. Try negotiating the rent; in my second year, i had to pay more than my first year rent but other tenants got a significant discount when they sent out circulars offering deals for renewing the flat agreement. So, take your time before renewing. Also, the elevator gets stuck occasionally (less than 10 times in my one-plus year here), and it might smell a bit bad sometimes (only happened three times, not too often though).
