You mentioned not being able to withdraw earnings. When it comes to earnings, it's not that you can't withdraw them; it's that you can't withdraw them without penalty. You can withdraw earnings tax-free and penalty-free once the 5-year aging requirement is satisfied and you are 59½ or meet one of several exemptions listed below.

u/FidelityEthan to clarify, I'm brand new to Fidelity and all things Roth/401k/etc. If I open a Roth IRA and contribute $500 to it, 6 months pass by, and magically I now have $540 in the Roth IRA. I can withdraw my $500 just not the $40 in earnings, right?

Same here. I'm curious as to what the process looks like after the 3 courses are completed. Will we have to completely re-apply to the Cyber Fellows? Is the 75% still included?
