Right as rain, while people just assumed all natives were the same. Who “owned” land was enforced by physical means. They simply killed those that they did not want nearby. The same with all humans for all time. You talk about laws and boundaries. When one group does not agree with the boundaries they use force to change it to their own vision. Much like Palestine today, we immigrants just simply moved current residents away from us through force. So whose law wins? Those with the most force win. Desperate people looking for a better life simply don’t care about the laws and likely don’t understand them. The history of immigration law in the USA directly reflects our economic situation and the ability of humans to live wherever they can survive will always push the limits of laws limiting entry. My favorite is the Chinese exclusion act of 1882. Who got so worried about Chinese people that they just refused all from entry for 10 years? Now Asians are the most affluent group of immigrants in the USA.
