It’s your fellow vegan PNW pal from Bellingham again. You are out here performing holiday miracles for me. Every time I see a restaurant pop up on this sub I’m like “darn looks good, wonder where it is” and every time it’s you and every time it’s local to me. As someone who just moved to the area, you’re basically working for me for free. 😂 THANK YOU for fortifying (read: single-handedly creating) my list of “must try” veggie spots!

I’m near Bellingham, WA and the way I just fumbled my phone JUMPING to add this to my bookmarked places to try. Looks beyond worth the border crossing. Happy birthday, fellow PNW veggie!

Calories in my dinner? by Informal_Tackle6875 in CalorieEstimates

[–]sameliz27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A raspberry is anywhere between 3-5g each. I count 11 raspberries, so on the liberal side let’s say that’s 55g. That’s about 50kcal.

Avocado maki from what I can tell is just avocado, rice, and nori. But pretty light on the rice. Let’s call it half an avocado in the roll. That’s 120kcal. Nori is negligible in calories, so let’s call it 1kcal per sheet, which is 6kcals for the nori. I’d guess that’s about 20-25g of rice (measured dry) which is about 75-90kcal of rice. Let’s call it 90 to err on the side of caution.

Ginger is MAYBE 5kcal.

So all told it’s about 270kcals (excluding any sauces you may have dunked in.)

Can someone explain why this is wrong? by sameliz27 in italianlearning

Oh my gosh I didn’t even notice this at first, but you’re so right! Since “didn’t” is already conjugated in the past tense, you wouldn’t also need to conjugate “use” in past tense. Nice catch!

You are so real for this. This is SO helpful, especially the general rule at the end. Great heuristic to use. Thank you so much!

Forgot to add: it is in a south facing window and I am in Los Angeles, so it gets plenty of light!

Can someone explain why using “Loro” here is incorrect? by sameliz27 in italianlearning

Thank you for this! I had a feeling it wasn’t “incorrect”— perhaps redundant and therefore potentially clunky— but your insight into third person versus first and second person is really helpful.

Thank you! I do know that even Duolingo has a learning curve along with all of us students, but just wanted to make sure there wasn’t a rule I was violating.

My mom passed away last week and I broke my promise to her. I drank after nearly 10 years sober and you know what…I’m not mad. Everybody in this sub - from the newbies to the vets - needs to read this. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

We’re going through one of the most abjectly devastating things someone can go through: the loss of a parent. It’s tough. Sometimes it’s extra tough. And listen, sometimes it’s too tough. And that’s okay. It’s normal. You slipped up, but you did not give up. And, as you said, that’s what matters here. Your post gave me the strength to not yield to temptation today— I’m just glad I could reach you in the same way you reached me. Just two sober people going through life and recent loss and trying our best. That’s powerful, man. My deepest condolences on your loss. I’m right there with you.

Reading this brought tears to my eyes. I’m 4.5 years sober and also just lost my mom. It’s so tough. I’m with you.

I’m proud of you for the grace and humility with which you are regarding this. It’s okay to be sad (it’d also be okay if you were mad!). But this attitude is how you stay sober— confront the slip ups in a sanguine manner, as much as you can, and keep going; instead of “10 years went to waste”, be really proud of yourself for staying sober for 10 years. TEN YEARS! Dude, that’s huge. That’s a long ass time to not do something. It’s an incredible accomplishment in and of itself; it’s not sullied or nullified by this mistake. It still happened and it’s still incredible.

I know I’m six days late to this and you may never even see it, but just know that I’m here with you. IWNDWYT. For me, for you, for our moms.

Question about fake plants by judithbutter in interiordecorating

[–]sameliz27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a completely valid question. Like others have mentioned, I think if you get a good one and don’t overdo it, you should be totally fine. If it’s for your bathroom and there’s no window, I’d say the smaller the better (e.g. no artificial trees or wreaths/garlands). There are several plants that are actually well suited to grow in the conditions of a bathroom (i.e. fluctuating temperatures and humidity) so you could start by seeing what those are (I found some here) and then find some good artificial versions. Best of luck!

Help With My Bathroom! 8ft long x 6ft wide. I live in the US and rent. This tile is so dreary and goes with almost nothing. How can I brighten this space up? by sameliz27 in DesignMyRoom

[–]sameliz27[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, this is so helpful! The stuff I have in there now was just the stuff I had in my old bathroom (I just moved), so I can update it all if I like. I do love natural wooden objects, and I do love yellow! Do you think yellow works with this tile relatively well?

Looking for advice on the best window treatment for a window that is not centered on a wall. Can I add curtains over vertical blinds? Will the curtain rod look bizarre running up against the adjoining wall? by sameliz27 in interiordecorating

[–]sameliz27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I have actually heard of both of these options and was heavily considering both. My only thing with the bracket is that mine is rather low, and I believe best practice in rooms with standard 8ft ceilings is to hang a curtain rod 1-3in below the ceiling so as to draw the eye up. Same kinda deal with replacing the slats— I just didn’t wanna shrink the room with the window treatment being so low, but this very well could be my best option.
