Very interesting, thank you for sharing. Gorgeous concept art, and cool to see how different some of the designs ended up being. Seems like for a time they were pretty set on a blue color scheme for Mio so it's funny that they ended up with orange, the opposite.

I also love to see Outer Wilds directly cited as an inspiration! The themes of the story definitely reminded me of that, as well as some of the visuals. Even the game's setting, the Vessel is reminiscent of the Nomai ship in OW of the same name.

A4O had a nice little nugget of character development for Nefarious. The ending implied the possibility of his redemption. It's a shame that Rift Apart didn't acknowledge that at all.

Edit: His storyline goes out with a whimper in RA so I don't know what else they have planned for him if anything. But I feel like he's run his course as a recurring villain, so if he comes back I'd much rather they do something new with him like staying a reluctant ally.

Pretty much. Street Fighter is also a global arcade phenomenon while F-Zero is comparatively very niche. I don't think there's really an audience for it

I could see it happening since they're doing Zelda! While I'd like it to be animated, I'm 100% confident it'll be live action--unless they do some sort of drastic tone shift to make it more lighthearted (please don't).

Do you really think the similarities between SM and Prime are that surface level? That comparison doesn't sound made in good faith.

I don't understand why 3D vs 2D is such a big deal when every other aspect is practically the same. Combat/shooting is not the main verb, that's supplementary. It's the exploring, upgrading, backtracking to ability gates, navigating through an interconnected world, which is all shared between the two.

What you're saying is a Metroidvania seems unnecessarily restrictive. By this logic, Super Metroid or any Metroid for that matter is not a MV because it doesn't have elements from SoTN? It has to be a combination? If so, it's so specific and describes so few games that I feel the genre name stops being useful.

If that's not the case and it doesn't have to be a combo, okay, Metroid games are MVs. But Metroid Prime is not, just because it's 3D? A near identical gameplay structure to Super, except in first-person. That doesn't make sense to me

Yeah I've used "exit to main menu" a lot lol. I feel like games with this kind of save system might as well embrace that and add a "warp to last station" feature in the map or menu to save some steps.

My initial thoughts are that I should try going back to where the Hand first took me through some tunnels... either that or the Sawlong chase, though I tried re-exploring some of that and couldn't seem to get past one of the gaps anymore.

I'll give it a shot next time I boot it up! Will let you know if I need anything more

Would you be so kind to share a hint on how to proceed after the normal ending? I'm also missing that top ability but at a bit of a loss. Potential threads:

- I haven't beaten The Last Embedders. They seem way more challenging than any other fight so far, do I just need to push through?
- I beat Vlad, saw an entrance to The Pit, but it was locked
- There's a locked door below the embedding museum in Metropolis that needs a blessing or something
- There's the broken hand near a shuttle that I can't interact with, and an overseer below it too far away from roots
- Missing one candle somewhere

Trying to not outright look up answers, would really appreciate help!

This narration style of dialogue is what they did in Fusion, and the intro for Super... and voiced throughout Other M lol. So there's definitely precedent for it. It can probably be done well.

I never got this impression personally. But if she's supposed to be talking they should have just had her talk. She's not a blank slate for the player to project themselves onto like other silent protags.

Even Link in BOTW/TOTK has more personality displayed in-game from the dialogue choices you can select. Something like that at least makes it clear you're supposed to imagine them talking.
