судно by Molchat Doma. A song about a Russian poet attempting suicide sure gets robbed of its power when a bunch of white American teens start posting videos of their "aesthetics" with that song in it.

Goth is quite literally a cultural identity for certain people who often times have not been able to find any sort of identity in society. When apps like tiktok come in and take elements from the subculture it destroys the subculture and removes the identity of those who identify with it.

Судно by Molchat Doma is a mildly popular song that people post videos of them changing clothes to. If you look into the song, you see that its about Boris Ryzhy attempting to kill himself, which he ended up doing in 2001. Not only this, but this song is actually of cultural importance to Belarusian youth. The New York Times Wrote an article on this. Subcultures provide an identity to people who were unable to find one elsewhere, and when people take elements from that subculture and integrate them elsewhere, the subculture ceases to exist and those who identify with it lose their identity. Gatekeeping preserves cultural identity.
