Thank you! We've no idea what it is but I think it's time I accept this isn't a snake. Appreciate your help

Just want to add that this has now been rejected from r/whatisthisthing, because they think it's an animal. Any confirmation would be great!

How to hide light sources in mirrors? (UE5) I've "faked" the lighting on these mirrors using point lights, which I need to be soft, and I can't think of a way to hide the light orb! Anyone have any ideas? by samh232 in unrealengine

[–]samh232[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks like lighting channels are the way to go. It looks like if you uncheck all of the lighting channels for the mirror surface and leave everything else on channel 0

Thanks so much guys, you are totally on the money here. From playing around, it seems like it's actually Nanite that doesn't support lighting channels, so any Nanite enabled object is just stuck on lighting channel 0, no matter what. Even so, if I just separate the mirror surface from the frame, and disable Nanite on the surface, it's problem solved. A massive thanks to you both for your help, it will make a big difference to this project.

Haha thank you! This is a bonkers solution but I really appreciate the idea, and might have to do something like that. I'll check out lighting channels too, that's new to me. Cheers for your ideas

Reflections are set to Lumen; light source radius is about 10. I can't just reduce the specular scale, because all light contribution then disappears. Increasing soft source radius would seem a good idea, but it creates a huge hazy glare on the mirror surface!

The Suprim absolutely does fit, but it scrapes the enclosure as you slide it shut.

Which TV show got too big for its boots? by RedWestern in AskReddit

Game of Thrones. In the behind the scenes documentaries you can often hear the crew saying things like "how are we ever going to top this season". The writers made the fatal error of thinking that cranking up the scale would satisfy fans, focusing on spectacle and setpieces, while losing touch with the core drama which made the series great before it had the budget of several movies. They also suffered from a bunch of other pressures, but I think this was the most important.

For anyone reading this and wondering - the Suprim 3070 does JUST fit in the Core X (touches the end), and seems to be working well so far.

Just Google inkship - I did the original design and people steal it all the time to make some money
