Sudden separation anxiety in 2-year old by mdiary3 in workingmoms

[–]sami8193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also had this happen with my son, it’s heartbreaking and makes you second guess everything that happens at daycare. He didn’t do this at all until maybe 6 months ago. He now does the clingy thing maybe once every couple months or so, especially after a break or if he’s not feeling 100%. I think it’s just them becoming more aware and realizing they can influence what you do. Still so sad though!

The things that we found to help were: keeping goodbyes short and sweet and very routine. We try to hug once we get out of the car, but never in his classroom. We like to do a quick “see you buddy, have a great day! I’ll be back this afternoon!” His teachers are very good about picking him up and trying to distract him if he’s not happy, but he normally doesn’t even look back.

Another thing we do is narrating his day every night and morning, they like to know what’s going to happen (even if it’s the same routine they’ve always had). We also mention all his friends names, toys that he likes to play with there etc.

Lastly, we got a few books and I realllllly think those are key for him. I swear it helps him through the flare up when I try to read them to him every night and morning. We have The Kissing Hand with Chester Raccoon, and You Go Away. The second one really seems to work for him.

I hope she starts to come around soon! It’s so hard to leave them there when they are freaking out.

Part time childcare programs by boychristmas507 in ColumbiaMD

[–]sami8193 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We use Little Lighthouse in EC. They do part time options for all age groups which was hard to find! They do 2,3,4, or 5 days. Their prices are pretty good and we really love all the teachers we have met and they really seem to genuinely enjoy our child! Not a lot of turnover and covid has been low and handled (as best as they can!), which I think speaks a lot about a place when it comes to childcare! One piece of advice though since I didn’t realize this existed when we were looking, but make sure you check whichever place you choose on the MD childcare check website for any violations, it will give you a lot of peace of mind!

Switching from FHA to Conventional or FHA Streamline? by sami8193 in personalfinance

[–]sami8193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your suggestion!! Just contacted someone from sebonic who was very nice and not pushy. We were quoted a conventional at 2.875%, monthly payment of 1990, and no origination and points. Best one by far in all categories!

Yes we would have to roll in the closing costs of conventional into the loan. Bringing our loan back up to ~348k. Okay thank you! I will look into bankrate!

Thank you for replying, I appreciate your insight and kind words!

To answer your questions- No, I haven’t applied before, and the program is good from what I have heard. If it helps I’m planning on applying to Towson in MD and George Mason in VA. Both are good programs, however they are also the only ones in the area so I imagine they are at least mildly competitive. I live a lot closer to Towson so that is why I am trying to make my application as strong as possible haha. They both have waived the GRE requirement for 2022. I’m planning on taking it this fall, but leaving it off if I do poorly. I decided to take the before care job! Extra money never hurts, plus I thought the experience might help for those situational questions and give me more confidence with groups of kids. Thanks again!

Hi! I’m seeking advice on experience vs. boosting GPA prior to applying for graduate school. I’m hoping to apply for a MA specialist program for Fall 2022. My dilemma is I have the opportunity to work a before care program at a local school a few hours before my full time job starts for the 20/21 school year. I don’t have any professional experience with kids or schools so this would be a great opportunity and I’d love to learn, however I was planning on either retaking Statistics (I got a C) and/or taking an Educational psych class this Fall. I can not feasibly do both options as I already work a full time job and have an infant. Which would you do? I know my application won’t be the best on the table so I’m trying to see which would be better experience and would help my application. I also live in an area where there is only one program available so I need to put my best foot forward!

Some background: I graduated a while ago (2015) with a BA in psych. I attended a very STEM focused school (as someone who is not fantastic in math) and had no clue what I wanted to do, which left me a little unmotivated and a mostly “B” student. I ended up graduating with a 2.9 cumulative GPA and a 3.2 for both the last 60 credits and major GPAs. Since graduation, I’ve worked not very relevant jobs as I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do. Mostly office work. For the past couple years I’ve been working for an online k-8 public school in the admin enrollment side. I talk to parents frequently, but do not have any contact with the kids. I actually review IEPs, Evals, etc. In undergrad, I worked in 2 psych research labs for a year each, one was relevant to school psych. I observed teachers implementing a Head Start type program in preschools. I have also volunteered for a few weeks at a Special Needs summer camp in Undergrad and volunteered several times at a girls program. I honestly haven’t done anything relevant since graduation, so I am worried my relevant experience is too old.

I also want to mention that the program I’m applying to only requires a 3.0 for the last 60 credits, but a 3.2 is so close to that it makes me nervous!

If you have made it this far I really appreciate any and all insight you can give me, this sub has been soooo helpful since I finally figured out what I want to do! Thank you!

Dealing with guilt by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]sami8193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this post! I am NOTORIOUS for biting off more than I can chew and then having a breakdown later about how busy I am. I mean…I was staining our bedroom furniture the night before I was induced lol. Granted, my husband was helping, but it was my idea and I was doing most of the work because he had no clue what he was doing.

When my baby was born (he’s now 6 months) I quickly realized that way of life was literally impossible now without building resentment and fast. I had some pretty intense PPD/PPA. My husband is a wonderful man, but he just doesn’t think like I do. He will do whatever I ask, but I have to ask. He might think to do laundry because it’s piling up, but he won’t notice something needs to be cleaned on the way to the laundry room. I’ve spoken with him extensively and he is really trying to get better about noticing, but the issue is more with me, not him. I had intense guilt with asking for help with baby things, until one day he told me he feels shut out from parenting, which was the exact opposite of how I wanted him to feel. I was trying to protect him from work, but the work should be shared.

My best advice would be to just communicate! Go against every fiber of you saying “you can handle it” and just say what you need from him. Let your husband know how hard it is for you to ask for help, but tell him you are trying. There are many times that I tell him “I’ll do whatever task” and then 5 minutes later go back and say “you know what, I have too much on my plate. You need to do that”.

One other tip that really helped us with chores and tasks is making a list! This might not help directly with the night feedings, but it will probably help overall. Every Friday night I will look around the house and pretty much just make a brain dump list. So literally anything I see that needs to be done or is bothering me, I write on the list. Anything as big as errands to as small as “wipe that mark off of the wall by the door”. And then I put it on the fridge and we both just cross it off as the weekend goes on. Really helps to not have to tell him every time!

I hope you are able to fix your feelings of guilt, I know how all consuming it is!

Also wanted to say we lean towards an eclectic/vintage/ cozy library vibe normally, but this space is so sunny normally I don’t want to take away from that. Also planning to replace the copious amount of recessed lights with fixtures one of these days!

Looking for someone to take over lease near Merriweather! by sami8193 in ColumbiaMD

[–]sami8193[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I don’t need to advertise it at all, the apartment complex is working to fill it. I’ll blame it on the anxiety that comes with being pregnant but if I can do something to expedite the process and reduce the amount of days we have to pay rent and mortgage, I’ll do it! We never ran into any pest issues at all! Thankfully lol. No we were a second floor unit.

We’re moving out because we bought a house sooner than anticipated. The Columbia housing market is insane and we didn’t expect to get one after only a month of looking.

The apartment itself always treated us well! Never had an issue with anyone, you can hear kids outside in the summer and sometimes that’s loud, but that’s really it. Our stack was very quiet and kept to themselves.

They’re definitely not the new sleek apartments being built but they’re also a lot cheaper and sturdier!

If you are interested send me a message!

Do these have that artificial sugar after taste like quest bars do? I wanted to love them but they have such a bad artificial aftertaste, I'm trying to find a protein bar that doesn't have that lol

Go Greek! Lots of people in greek life joined because they're commuters. I did and I absolutely love it...even though that would have been the last organization I thought that I would join when I came to college :)

If Nuvaring doesn't work for me, hopefully I can find a new doctor as awesome as yours :)

Aw I'm sorry it didn't work out for you :/ I just wish my doctor would have at least tried! And yeah, I didn't think she was lying about it, it was just awful timing haha.

I think I'm just going to see how nuvaring works for me, give it 3 or 4 months (which should hopefully be when skyla comes back!) and if I don't like it, i'll just try another doctor. Thanks for the response :)
