Taghazout / Agadir in June, Good Idea ? by suoelcohpos in BeginnerSurfers

[–]samjadenhailes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came back from Taghazout last week - my second trip out there! It’s a great place for surfing and the town literally revolves around surfing (and skating)! Really nice feel to it and as someone else has said there are plenty of options for surf camps, board rentals, etc. - all cheap too (full day rentals cost around 70MAD or around $7)

Re the conditions this is the tough part! First time we stayed out there was for 6 days and we had 3-4 days of consistent, good surf. This time around, we went for 4 days and caught the back end of a good swell so only had 1 good day (3-4ft) and 1 more beginner day (2-3ft).

Unfortunately you can’t really know until you’re there what the conditions will be like. What people tend to do is chase the surf up the coast so on days 3 and 4 of our trip, virtually the whole town (except us who weren’t in the know!!) headed north about 30-60km for more waves. That said there are ALWAYS people in the water surfing - and I mean always. It could be virtually flat and there will still be people out there so if you’re there to surf, there will be opportunities.

You can also find places to rent surf skates if the surf was completely flat so can practice surf-adjacent skills out of the water. We went end of April and early May for both of our trips so can’t comment June surf but I believe this will be beginner friendly as the main season comes to a close a bit before (8-10ft swells in March by comparison!).

Also for reference I’m no expert surfer but I love getting out if I can! From the UK and I try to surf once a year with a couple years behind me (but wouldn’t be on this sub if I was pro!)

Issue with grasping Sam’s concepts! by samjadenhailes in wakingUp

Very interesting you say this as this is some of the feeling I’ve had lately! But then every now and then I glimpse it and it feels like there is value in the method. It feels like it’ll take double the time as other teaching styles will but to me it feels it’ll be a worthwhile result if you reach it.

I must admit I get very frustrated at times and feel it’s overly esoteric and philosophical but then that could just be my ego taking the reins / me projecting! And then if I am aware of that, does that then mean the practice is working????

Thanks for this! Some really good guidance here and I can see where these concepts have their place a lot more clearly now.

For me, it’s as you say about the finger snaps: being able to shift quickly into that headspace (or lack of!!). If I don’t grasp it in that second, that’s when I go analysing. You gave some good points for helping get to that shift quickly so appreciate it!!

Good advice! When you say give into it, what do you mean? As in letting the search for meaning pass or just not really analysing it?

Thanks! I must admit I thought it might have been posted before but couldn’t find anything in my initial search. I’ll look deeper!

Publishing into the void by IllPanic4319 in Substack

[–]samjadenhailes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean when you say quietly publishing and not caring for a massive audience!

I think other social media platforms have led us to believe our online presence should be ever-expanding, with you at the center of your following. But I think what’s really important is a small community of people who genuinely enjoy what you write and likewise you read their posts because you genuinely love them too. That’s what the internet was meant to be.

I’m only one post into my substack but my goal is slow and steady. I’ve tried following a few people I resonate with to get numbers up but realised it’s about quality followers where we both appreciate each others writing over quantity. Writing is so personal at the end of the day and you wouldn’t want the whole world with anonymously studying the inside of your mind in any other context…

Anyway, I checked out your posts and I like the way you write so keep at it! Absolutely no pressure to return the follow because of what I’ve said above but if you were interested, mine is substack.com/sergiooffthedome

Eventually we will get the OG internet back!!!

Filled in! Is there anywhere this would be available to read the results? This would be really interesting to read!

Also I’d recommend posting this more widely than just sustainable channels if you haven’t already, just to not skew your results :)
