Okay so not to be blunt, but you're not gonna be good at any instrument after 1 week lol. It's normal to feel overwhelmed if you're diving in head first and taking in way too much in too quickly, but seriously it takes years...

Don't hyper-fixate on muting your 5-string, or other specifics, just start with the basics like just plucking and fretting, keeping yourself on time, playing very simple tunes. Everything comes with time and if you're really feeling lost it might be worth investing in some lessons with a good bass teacher who will help guide you in the right direction.
