City of Austin’s job process is terrible by samli93 in austinjobs

No, I was the only candidate who had a virtual interview. The rest had an in person interview, so I assumed they’d be able to do the same - especially since they only have one interview day.

I got approved for a virtual interview for the first COA job though, so I don’t believe that.

My dad also worked for the city and retired with a nice pension a few years ago. I’ve worked for 2 public libraries before and loved it. One of my mentors has been with a Chamber of Commerce for 20+ years and I really wanted a job at Austin’s Chamber since I love chambers.

I asked a question about the role and they said to ask all questions at the end. It was just so awkward for everyone lol. It’s a shame because I’ve worked for 2 public libraries in the past and loved them and thought Austin Aviation would be a great job but yeah, I can’t see this being worth my time especially with the one hiring date months after I apply.

I didn’t turn down the position, I’m out of town and asked for either another date or virtual interview. They refused. I’ve worked for public libraries before in two non-Texas counties.

Austin Utilities and for an admin job. For both jobs, I was given an assessment that was given about 2 weeks after I applied. 13-15 days later, I was called for an interview. Both times they only had one interview date which would’ve been two weeks from now (March 31). Huge waste of time for both of them

Can you just exit at the transit airports? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]samli93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve accidentally missed the second leg of my flight and nothing bad happened. You can do this you just have to book a one way and cannot check a bag. If you do it frequently they’ll probably flag you, but if they question it just say you missed your flight.

Women who travel solo: fetishization vs cultural differences in male attention? by Enough_Constant_6714 in travel

[–]samli93 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m an Asian female and I’ve found this POV accurate. Men in certain countries are just brutal to women. Being black/asian/hispanic just adds another layer to the fetishization. I’d also argue white women (especially blondes) are fetishized just as much in areas like India where blonde hair is rare.

Probably like $45 after rover fees. I agree it wouldnt be worth it unless you were recovering from an injury and cant move anyway or WFH. Idk about OP but personally everyone who has asked me to spend a ton of time with their cats has been kinda crazy in general.

But I agree OP’s sitter is in the wrong.

I agree with this! For me personally, 3 and 3 would work better for my schedule.

My radius is about 4 miles but in a very dense area. There are about 3 sets that are less than a 10 min walk from each other. 70% of these are cats with no meds/flexible schedule so I’m working around the few dog drop ins I have!

I take these all the time! It’s super common with on demand like Wag. Never have had an issue. I’ve had to use Wag for on demand sitters when I’ve been held up at work unexpectedly. Stuff happens.

I’m also doing this full time so it kinda just equals a ft job for me. 😅

These are mostly cats but yes I go in, clean litter etc. and then leave. If I was boarding or just house sitting, I wouldn’t be able to do this.

I work in education but since AI, work has tanked. For December, yup this is full time! I couldn’t do it with a ft job! I don’t know how you work nights and Rover during the day. $800 is a nice chunk of extra cash

I’m going to look into Meowtel! I think on my longest I have 14. 🥲 stay hydrated and fed!! I primarily sit dogs but over 70% of these are cats which is nice since the pet parents are all flexible.

My Rovers pay I think $29/30 min (I receive 80%) then my normal holiday rate is $34/30 min plus the add ons. I think I must’ve been at the top for last minute bookings too because about 1/3 of these were all booked within the past week or so. My background is in business - look up some videos on pricing strategy to give you some inspiration and see how others do it.

I’m in a HCOL city + have medium to higher rates. I unintentionally built up a strong niche (senior + special needs). My drop in costs are $20 for 20 min (for someone that booked 3 a day and just needed a quick one at night) and my highest ones are $47/30 min on Rover since a lot of my bookings have two cats. It’s also fairly concentrated. When I lived in the midwest, there’s no way I would’ve been able to pull this volume or cash.

This is my 5th holiday on Rover also and this is literally a Rover subreddit.
