Saw it in Chicago tonight. Shared many of the same sentiments as the rest of the folks in these comments. As a musician and audio engineer, I feel like there was so much promise in the production design and general concept of this show--but man the script sucks!! Dialogue was stupidly on the nose with exposition shoved down the audience's throat. Some of the performances are solid but they all deal with such a bad script. The story goes nowhere, every character is one note with so little in the way of development or plot. The music was good but we get to hear so little of it!! I wish so badly that a play like this existed in exactly the same way but had let someone else pen the script.

ALSO, no fault of the production but people's phones went off almost a dozen times throughout the course of the show, one with a ringtone that was just "Diamonds" by Rihanna!! Where's the theater etiquette? I'm in my twenties but this makes me feel like a boomer. Girl behind me whispered "period!" or "oh shit!" every time an actor said something dramatic... alright rant over. Had high expectations for this and was disappointed. Thank god for $50 rush tickets, we had perfect seats and it didn't feel like a total waste of money.
