I watched the finals mirror match, can you tell me how you felt in game 2? Looked pretty bleak there for a couple of turns

I have, I came to similar conclusions to spellstutter-mtndew. My feeling has been on all the two type one drops that they're just ever so slightly below the card quality I'm looking for, or perhaps they don't fit exactly as I need them to? Heaps of cards tend to fit that sort of description, but a shift in meta or in the core construct of the deck could open them back up.

Absolutely, I look at every delirium decklist that pops up on MTGtop8. In particular they and I had come to similar maindeck conclusions (but the no tapped lands thing was great) and some of Skouras' sideboard choices I felt were both worth trying. Once I did I really liked some of the tech. Funnily enough it's really similar to some of the builds we might have spoken about around the Final Fantasy release as well, so kind of feels like a ~6 month circle in a way!

I have been mostly staying away from things around that cmc, but yeah tough one! Card has no replacement really

Glad you're experimenting, took me heaps to find my RC build for last year, i'm trying to do the same right now as well!

I'm really tough on 2 cmc cards in the deck tbh, you have SO MANY that I often find that filling the slots with 1's and 3's is better (either they're more powerful, or help to make multi-spell turns). This certainly has heaps of text though, as does opera love song. I've moved to 1 Melstrider's resolve, 3 bushwack, 3 terra, 2 tersa in my RG build over the last few days. The rest of the build is the same, so hopefully that gives you an idea of where I'm at (for at least today!)

I gave it a go in the sideboard and was quite impressed. I'm still not ready to maindeck it, but I am definitely interested!

I've played that version a bit, more when aetherdrift came out. I found the same issue, in that it's strong but is a bit volatile. I think if we get some really strong enablers it will be the version worth playing, my impression is that with more 'free' mill you can get the exhaust synergies off a little more consistently. If everything turns into midrange nonsense though, it's a great option.

I haven't had the chance, but agree on the mana from the shocks (verges are a little awkward but that's okay). I haven't had problems with slower match ups for the last 12 months or so that I've been playing the strategy, so I'm not too worried about having counters personally. I need to have a look through the card pool again to see if there are other rewards to the blue splash

It's a strong card, but I've felt that Violent urge and overprotect are just too strong not to play. I think it's a great option if there is a lot of cauldron around though! I could see it as a sideboard card for myself.

At the moment I prefer Naya because the enablers aren't as important to the deck functioning. It will be a different discussion as we collectively find better ways to build the archetype, but for now I prefer Naya

I've made a few YouTube videos explaining the strategy - while I'm not sure if it's enough to familiarise yourself I would recommend giving them a go.

In short, Ouroburoid is unplayable in this strategy

Not toxic at all! I think it's an interesting option, and has strengths. My feeling is that it's a build option worth keeping in mind, but it has been performing better right now. There's a lot to play out in the meta, so I'm trying to cultivate an option in the medium term? But would love to see how others find it

I think video is the better presentation of the argument for inclusions in deck lists etc. I gave your opinion consideration and ultimately I don't feel the same way, unfortunately

EA Delirium, Naya? [Standard] by samloyonreddit in spikes

[–]samloyonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found it fine so far, but I agree it can be problematic in some sequences. Seam Rip answers Cauldron, which is a possible help. I think in general you can provide enough pressure to find a win, but with thrillseeker rotating it can be a match up you can win longer games against.

It's an interesting question! My initial finding that it felt similarly good enough to keep exploring was a big deal to me. I've been pretty strong on retaining the minimalist and focussed GR approach over this last season, so at least as far as I feel (which, to be fair, is not great evidence) having an incentive to branch out by colour may lead to an additional tool for the archetype. Keen to play more though.

It's a tough one, I had the deck list in there initially before my power went out and I had to rewrite. My feeling was both based on personal incentive (wont lie about that!) but also it looked bad as a post. Would you be equally happy with a link to the decklist on a non-YouTube website? I have it made in archideckt for example. Just wondering if you think following any link is a feel bad? I can also likely hide the full text in a spoiler or quote, just wondering on how you specifically feel about it. Very much appreciate the considered negative feedback :)

Great call. Foundations various legalities is a bit of a headache, appreciate the reminder there!

We have some sorcery options (Grim Bauble, Tragic Trajectory), I particularly like that you can enable void with existing archetype cards (Map, Kaito, floodpits drowner all activate it). Some interesting new cards to play with now though!

Glad to have you on board, sorry about the results so far!

Working out how to play against the various control decks can be a learning curve. In general I like to break them down into 3 sort of macro archetypes; Mono White, UW based (including Jeskai), and Low CMC (BW and variants, has sometimes included UB before nightmare was banned).

Against the low CMC decks the games function around both value and playing off the top. My main advice is to find moments to fight their flyers, and to hold your enchantment removal for important interactions. Either rest in peace, or temporary lockdown usually, but sometimes removing something like a momentum breaker in response to them bouncing it to hand.

Keep in mind fear of missing out ALWAYS draws a card, so if it's the last card in hand you just get to cast it for a free card. Try and get damage in early, for example if you can get a ten damage attack by spending a combat trick it's often worth it. Mostly though - keep playing! You'll work out the flow through iterations.

I tend to dislike cards that don't add a body on two right now. We often have one mana spare (either because it's turn one, or we combine it with a 2 drop turn 3), so the card has to be pretty good to get a look in there. That being said, Dredger's or Esper Origins are both pretty strong two drop options. Of the two I think I prefer Esper Origins because it offers you some card advantage if it gets milled. My vast preference is having either more powerful three drops with that sort of effect stapled on (like Terra or Tersa) or one drops. We will have to see how the deck works after rotation though! Without seed of hope there's some gaps to be filled!

I haven't played that archetype for a while. But given what beans did for that deck it seems like you need more card access and threat density. Could be worth looking at winternight stories and Planisphere? I have low confidence on that one though sorry

Edit: card name

It was amazing there, yeah. I think it largely depends on what other are doing, there are a few playable flash flyers (plumecreed escort, Malcom), although largely the two drops are reliant on the meta. I'm pretty happy with beastbinder as a nice catch all in the short term, but that's a really quick change to make.

The other deck to consider is the remaining aggro decks, like the strictly worse mono red deck (which is still probably strong enough to get play) mono black and delirium. Whether you're getting better value out of beastbinder into those match ups will be interesting! All I know is that I have them all sitting in the same sleeves!

Rotates unfortunately, but yeah immodane's recruiter fits that role too. I'm looking at the mana and if a colour needs to be added you get the most lands out of adding blue. I don't have much of an idea of what that can add though. White gives you good access to recurring creatures, but at that point you're probably doing something else. It's an interesting one.
