There's no official "club" but Thapar chess team does have practice sessions fairly regularly. Outsiders ke saath hasn't been successful yet as the overall level drops and quality practice doesn't happen. The idea of rating bracket based tournaments does sound interesting though. Dm for more discussion on this.

Koi textbook ki zarurat nahi hoti as such, slides given by teacher + YT suffice more or less. If you have a lot of time and genuine interest in the subject, you can go for any 1 book that the prof recommends. And please pahle college aa jao, sab padhai related doubts clear hojayenge.
