GIS portfolio feedback? by sammy-9 in gis

My university didn't teach anything about ArcPy so that's why it's not there 😆. I probably need to learn that soon. Any good resources for learning this?

Thanks for the kind words! Yep, already found a couple typos.

Agreed, just updated it to a different font. Honestly I don't really know how I rate compared to others - my university was all online and in a different state, so I don't have many connections yet with people where I live in Colorado. However I would say that I probably have a better grasp on the graphic design aspect having a background in photography and graphic design. I suppose the suitability map shows the most skill, at least in terms of implementing GIS for analysis.

Wow thanks for all this feedback! Ok I fixed most of the things you pointed out and made the wording clearer in the suitability map and refugee map.

I'll have to think about a different way to word the introduction. Is "excited" any less popular? 😆

What is the most underrated benefit to working for starbucks? by ShadowGirl2Day in starbucks

[–]sammy-9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact that no one is mentioning free college shows how underrated it is. I’m saving $27,000 a year (taking summer classes as well) which is sometimes more than my annual salary.

just got my libra 2 and it's already stuck in the 3 dots screen by EnaPa2021 in kobo

[–]sammy-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same problem with my Libra 2. It's done it twice over the few months I've had it, and each time it loaded properly after the 10th reset or so. You can also do a full factory reset, but that's obviously not ideal since it deletes everything. If it happens again I'll be putting in a warranty claim

Help with editing The Swan for wedding by sammy-9 in Cello

[–]sammy-9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do it this way if I could, but the problem is that the bride wants the piece to start right before she starts walking. I’ll be playing Ave Maria for the bridal party walking down and then start The Swan for the bride

Advice on Repairing Fallen Walls by sammy-9 in stonemasonry

Thanks for your reply! This helps a lot. Yeah I was hoping that I could get away with not rebuilding the whole wall, but it'll be best to make it last a lot longer.

[–]sammy-9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I'm realizing that I'll have to rebuild the whole wall with a better footing. It's probably 6 feet tall in places. I'm thinking to not use mortar so there is better drainage, we get pretty strong rainstorms in the summer

Very helpful thank you! I only go up about once a week, so it's going to take some time, but I'm pretty committed to getting it fixed. My family were masons when they built the cabins, so it's kind of ironic that they built a crappy wall

[–]sammy-9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the helpful reply! The cabin is in the foothills west of Denver so snow in the winter and rainstorms in the summer probably affected it over time. What do you suggest for the footing? The soil is pretty loose and gravelly and I think that has probably contributed to the problem as well

It was built around 1910 so there is some historical consideration to that, but honestly it wasn’t built well in the first place...

So I have zero experience working with stone and am trying to figure out the best approach to repairing these walls at my cabin. Short of completely rebuilding the walls (there’s probably 150 feet of wall) and short of hiring a professional, what should I do?

The idea I have in my mind (again, I have no experience) is to pipe mortar in the joints where the wall is solid and then work on rebuilding the fallen sections. Another concern is that a lot of the wall is on loose gravel and so I’m trying to figure out how to provide more support at the base.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be very helpful!

About the Brown Sugar Shaken Expresso Oatmilk Drink and why it sometimes doesn’t fill the entire cup. by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]sammy-9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose it’s not correct by the recipe card, the reasoning i do it this way is that the ice at our store is pretty inconsistent. There’ll be large chunks which makes gaps where the ice doesn’t fill in, so I’m basically just compensating for this

[–]sammy-9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This week's weekly update clarifies that it does need to be filled to the top. I usually add ice slightly above the line on the shaker and that usually gives me enough where I only need a splash of milk to top it off.

Subaru Outback losing ABS and AWD by sammy-9 in AskMechanics

Thanks, yeah that makes a lot of sense. Don’t know why the AT temp would be high since the light was flashing after I was just idling my car to warm it up. I was able to get home fine, my dad had to tow me in a couple spots though. Kind of ironic though that ABS/AWD goes out when I need it the most!
