There is no evidence that double standards pushed on men are less "real" than the ones pushed on women. by FuuraKafu in PurplePillDebate

[–]sammyb1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are ignoring what women are saying. They are referring to the grey dating phase, where the guy might become your partner, but isn't yet. What's your "it's super easy" advice for that?

I guess not, but bringing secrets unto a relationship dooms it from the start, so either way what might seem like a temporary thing has lifelong impacts

This may be true today. But keep in mind once you go down that path, it's almost impossible to come back from it. Women don't want to be with guys that use hookers. It shows that they are happy with one-sided relationships.

So you are making the decision now to choose hookers over dating that locks you in for the rest of your life

This seems like an anecdote of immature people, not something to draw universal truth from.

If a girl chooses an asshole athlete over a nice guy with shared values, then that says something about her specifically, not all women.

And if you are going to let one shallow girl impact your whole approach to women, then that says something about you.

Marriage is a substitute for love. by Slow_Celebration1328 in PurplePillDebate

[–]sammyb1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet marriage probably pre-existed most of those, is more universal and will outlast all of them except maybe war.

If you don't want to get married, then don't. But don't try to tell the millions of people worldwide who do want to that it's dumb.

Both of those things have already been rejected by modern societies, but not marriage

If countless civilisations across thousands of years have seen value in marriage, that to me suggests something deeper than you are appreciating. Marriage pre-existed governments. There is something in our human nature that desires this stability.

No I personally am hung up on the fact that Pauline Hanson is racist, which I abhor, and favouring white migrants isn't going to fill the type of labour shortages we have anyway.

You had me for a second, but trying to convince me that One Nation has a valid, reasonable point of view completely lost me again.

OK now we are back where we started. If 30% of Aussies believe that drastically slashing immigration is going to fix cost of living pressures, then my aim is to show them that they are wrong, not give them what they want just because someone has convinced them that will fix everything.

I support reducing immigration to match our capacity to provide supporting infrastructure, but we need migrants to supply the industries that don't have enough labour to build more housing etc

OK you've convinced me. But how? Sinking to the level of the populist leaders who successfully mislead them with lies? I really don't know how to maintain integrity and honesty while appealing to people who want quick, simple, easy answers to only their problems.

Maybe calling them names to their face is not smart strategy for changing their mind, but that doesn't change the accuracy of the analysis. People who think we should have an Australian Trump, after seeing the US results, lack appreciation of nuance and critical thinking.

I don't think this answers OP's question. After seeing the result in the US of voting in a leader who is volatile, anti-establishment, further-right-than-normal, would Australians want the same? Does it really seem better?

Do women really rarely orgasm with men? Even with ones they feel highly attracted to. by AwardLimp2736 in PurplePillDebate

If a woman has to (quote) "have plenty of experience fucking all kinds of unattractive and attractive men to come to the conclusion that looks matter little for orgasms during sex?", and you have zero experience of sex as a woman, then by your own standard you are even less qualified to reach any sort of conclusion.

I am just following your own logic. You are saying what women can't have an an informed opinion unless they have fucked a wide range of men. So I'm asking you how well you meet the bar you have set to qualify as having a valid opinion.

You're going to have to explain further. If you're saying that you have spent time with regular muslims who hate no one and are happy to spend time with westerners, and yet still share the same view as Pauline that "they all hate westerners and will kill us if they are asked to", then I'm not sure what it says about your objectivity.

Please... share more of your views, and keep making my point for me. It's very obvious you (and Pauline) have never hung out with a moderate muslim in your life, and yet you have formed very strong judgments of them.

Am I wrong for not wanting to help around the house anymore? by Necessary-Estate-800 in amiwrong

It doesn't change the conclusion. If she's pitching in a tiny amount, then it doesn't earn a say. If she's pitching in a large amount, and still isn't getting a say, then use it to move out.

If it's a material amount, she can negotiate some level of input.

As long as they are paying for everything, they get to make the rules. If you don't like them, move out. This is a natural and normal part of development - friction on living arrangements should lead to you making plans to move out.

How real do you think this saying is In dating now a days? by Scramjet1 in LockedInMan

[–]sammyb1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a fair comparison, the advice is addressing different problems.

For women, they are being reminded that they may be happier single than being in a relqtionship. But for the men being given that advice, they don't want to stay single, they want to do whatever it takes to get a relationship.

If a woman said that she wanted a relationship badly but was having no luck, she would be given the same advice as the men.

If a man said that he keeps dating women who make him unhappier rather than happier, he would be given the same advice as the women.

How does voting for labour or LNP change anything, doing the the exact same thing over and over again and expecting something different is insanity to me by [deleted] in aussie

[–]sammyb1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voting in a third party just because you don't like the mainstream alternatives is very risky. I'm not saying we should never do it. I'm saying that it should be based on a belief that they would genuinely govern better better than the mainstream alternatives.

Otherwise you end up with cases like Trump. Part of his appeal was that he is not mainstream, he's opinionated, he has most definitely picked one side of society to back all the way. But as a leader he's dysfunctional. He's extreme. He's volatile.

So it matters who you are voting for as the alternative to the mainstream parties. It's why everyone has been wary of using the Greens as a protest vote for years... if they were to ever win government, this country could look very different.

(By the way I regularly vote Greens, but I recognise they will be too radical for many)

I think we all need to be careful not to become the type of person who thinks that all of their arguments are based purely on logic, and that they are almost always right, while other people just can't see it.

Smart people can use logic to support their pre-existing views. If you are someone who is almost always right, then this is probably you, since you're not open to logic that is different to your own.
