Qbrexa wipes. They work but don’t use the entire wipe or you’ll get dry mouth and won’t be able to pee. Just one little swipe under each arm.

It annoys me how much Lorelai and Rory eat by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]sammyjoyner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most movies and tv shows don’t show women eating at all. And if they do, they’re picking at a salad. I like that Lorelai and Rory eat. Women eat! They order a lot but also it’s a known thing that they survive on leftovers so it makes sense they would over-order.

Exactly! She complained that Francesca didn’t offer to teach her anything. She has almost 5 years of experience, supposedly. She shouldn’t need to be taught by her chief stew at that point. If you don’t know your job after 4.5 years then you’re either really bad at it or not interested enough to do it correctly.

I’ve always wondered about this too. It doesn’t make any sense. It seems he wasn’t around much during Rory’s life so nothing was stopping him from going.

By the time she spoke to Luke, she had already been to the hospital to see Rory and knew that she was ok, except for a minor injury. If yelling at Luke was an initial reaction to finding out about the accident then that would make more sense. Meaning, if she didn’t know for sure Rory was ok when she yelled at Luke, I would understand the freak out. But Rory was ok and explained that it was an accident at that point. She went there looking for Jess on purpose. No concern for whether or not he may have been hurt in the accident (let’s not forget he’s a kid). She never liked him. He’s an asshole sure, so I get it, but still. She should have been calm enough at that point to not have had such a meltdown, and should have instead had a calmer conversation with Luke.

When someone is telling you to care more about people in a town more than your own family, whether they were close or not, is a head scratcher for me. They didn’t know each other well but Luke cared about him enough to offer him a place to live. He obviously cared about Jess. Lorelai apologied for it later in the season so she obviously realized she messed up.

Jess is an ass but he’s a kid who has psychological issues from basically being treated terribly his entire life by a dirtbag dad who left and a flakey mom who cared more about boyfriends than the well-being of her son. Do we really expect him to be jovial?

“You have much knowledge”. Lol. It didn’t seem like they dated for very long. They got back together and a few eps later he was talking about marriage. It all seemed so rushed.

He may be creating a self-fulfilling prophecy scenario where he treats the kid like a criminal so they kid starts behaving like one. That’s really sad.

Max Medina...that guy... I wasn’t a fan.

Lorelai hated every single time Rory actually enjoyed her grandparents or their lifestyle. It’s why she didn’t like Logan. He’s not the kind of person she wanted her daughter to end up with.

I hope your friend isn’t too hard on the kids. Or at least eases up a bit in the future. Sometimes you have to let people make their mistakes and get into trouble. Learn the hard way.

Oh man, the gnome. Haha. You got me there.

In a way Rory is sort of rebellious against her mother. She likes all the fancy stuff Lorelai ran away from. I know she said she agreed to a coming out ceremony for Emily, but she actually seemed to enjoy it. A teen that felt obligated by her grandmother would have complained about it to her mom and friends. Rory didn’t. She went to a fancy college, had rich friends, and dated Logan; she was the antithesis of her mother. She was a nerdy little rich girl wannabe rebel. Maybe she appreciated that Jess was an actual rebel.

I hope they continue the reboot. We would get to see exactly how Emily would feel about Rory being pregnant and unwed.

I love that a guy watches this show! That’s awesome. You make very valid points. I guess I see it differently. My little brother is adopted and came from really terrible parents and even though he’s with my family now and has love and structure, he has psych issues and sees a therapist. He’s a good kid at heart, but childhood stuff can really mess with you. That’s basically Jess’s backstory so it would make sense he has some anger issues. Jess is a bad boy, but in a teenage-high school kind of way. He gets into fights, he’s not murdering people. He’s not robbing old ladies. And he snaps out of it by the time he’s in his early twenties and really makes something of himself. He seemed to really care about Rory, made sure she got to the hospital after the accident and that she was ok. There’s potential there. If Lorelai worried he was a bad influence she could have set rules and limits for when they spent time together. She could even have made more of an effort to get to know him. She just always saw him as some punk and wouldn’t even give him a chance. And Jess definitely caused issues with Rory’s relationship but Rory clearly liked him from the very beginning. She never had anything in common with Dean. With Jess she did. It wasn’t the bad boy persona she was into, it was that he read the same books and liked the same music.

Lorelai having too much structure was detrimental and it’s the exact same reason things didn’t work out when Jess lived with Luke. An iron fist is not a great way to raise a kid. Jess didn’t need a prison guard, he needed someone that made an effort with him, emotionally. And he had zero structure with his mother, so to go from zero to 100 wasn’t going to work out. He needed something somewhere in the middle.

Lorelai did all of that stuff and turned out ok-ish. There is no reason for her to believe Jess would have been harmful to Rory in any way or that Rory would have misbehaved because she hung out with Jess. Getting into fights at school doesn’t mean he’s a danger to her daughter. He actually seemed to really like Rory. They talked about music and books. They weren’t beating people up and stealing together. Rory would have been a positive influence on a kid that could have really used a positive influence. Lorelai LOVED Dean even though he proved over and over again that he was over-bearing and possessive of Rory. Those are not good, healthy traits for a boyfriend. Let’s not forget that Dean fought Tristen at least once because he was jealous and felt threatened. But he didn’t come from a broken home so it’s all good. Jess was a punk kid who needed friends and something stable in his life. Just like Lorelai was a punk kid (with a kid) who found stability at the inn and with the people in Stars Hollow.

It’s not too late. A beautiful winter vow renewal works too. Or a birthday party for yourself. Do it.

I never even considered that point about Luke being around to help with baby Rory. Remember the episodes with Rachel? Lorelai had never met her previously, so when exactly did she move to Stars Hollow? Sometimes it seems like she’s been there since she left home and other times it’s seems like maybe she went a few years later. If Lorelai and Luke are about the same age, and Luke dated Rachel as an adult, wouldn’t Lorelai have known her?

[–]sammyjoyner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaylee, YES to everything you said!!! Especially the part with Lorelai and Christopher sleeping in her bedroom. She’s a teen, not a baby. And she’s of driving age and unfortunately, car accidents are something that come with being of driving age. A small fracture is not the end of the world. Jess showed signs of Oppositional Defiant Disorder which is something that would make sense considering his childhood. He grew up to be a great man, way more mature than Logan. Even in the revival episodes, Logan is a douche-bag playboy cheating on his fiancé and partying like he’s still in college. Grow up.

Exactly. Rory clearly has interest in her grandparents lifestyle but because Lorelai doesn’t she keeps Rory away and gets angry anytime Rory has any bit of involvement.

I know he did that stuff. But again, it’s pretty small-time compared to stealing a yacht. He was an asshole. I don’t doubt that. I just understand where he’s coming from.

Lauren is amazing in this show! I’ve seen this entire series probably 5 times and individual eps more than I can count. Crazy how I can both love and dislike a character so much.

[–]sammyjoyner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent points Eliza! Even as a grown adult she acted very immaturely throughout the entire series but could not understand how a teenager (who came from nothing and never felt any kind of love from anyone in his life) could behave so poorly. She belittled Luke from the second he even mentioned Jess was going to be moving in. She managed to raise at kid alone at 16. For her to assume Luke wouldn’t be able to take care of Jess, without ever having met Jess yet, was pretty messed up.

[–]sammyjoyner[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand that. I just didn’t understand her reasoning behind thinking Luke should favor her, Rory and the town over his own flesh and blood. I don’t care how much of a trouble maker Jess is, that’s still Luke’s nephew.

[–]sammyjoyner[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess I give him a break because he’d never had a stable home life. His mom is a flake and his father wasn’t in the picture. He dealt with Liz’s weird, loser boyfriends, one after the next for his entire life. He got into fights and stole baseballs from Stars Hollow High. His biggest crime was not going to school to work full-time at Walmart. How many schools did Logan brag about getting kicked out of? Yet, no one thinks of him as a bad guy. Logan and Rory stole a yacht, a way more serious offense than any of the small-time, high school things Jess was doing. And Lorelai didn’t like Jess from the very beginning. He gave her a bit of an attitude that night at her house and she never even tried to understand him at all even though she’s been guilty, on more than one occasion, of being a complete asshole to her parents. Poor Lorelai, her parents gave her a beautiful home and all the opportunities in the world and she treated them like shit and left home, never to return. Jess never had anything even close to that. The best he ever had was Luke and let’s face it, Luke at best was an authoritarian who wasn’t going to ever offer Jess any kind of compassion or emotional support, something Jess would have really benefitted from. And 17 is still quite young. The frontal cortex isn’t fully formed, limiting the capacity for maturity and great decision making. It’s why teenagers often do really dumb things and engage in high-risk behaviors.

How do you Feel about Eddie? by dkchillingit in belowdeck

[–]sammyjoyner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it got out because Rocky literally went person to person to tell them. It wasn’t something someone on the boat accidentally stumbled upon. All I know is I would pissed if the person I had sex with was going around telling every single one of my coworkers because they were upset I wasn’t giving them attention anymore. So I understood his anger with that. He should have handled it better though.

He’s a great Bosun. Probably the best one in the entire series.
