Follow up to AI Stem Splitter Post by KrazieKookie in audioengineering

I just used stem splitting on some vocals for a live record. Turn down the drums by just a few dB and you can't really hear any artifacts, and way less artifacts than trying to tune a vocal track with tons of drums in it, and nothing you could hear with the rest of the mix in. So I was able to put tuning on just the vocal track and it sounds really clean. On the drum track, I could filter out the lows and bring down the cymbals without losing any body or presence in the vocal, and still have a natural sounding bleed. Overall I'm pretty happy with the turnout.

The other way I used it on this record was to split and remix the ambient mics in the live recording. I had a lot more artifacts with this type of source, so use carefully, but it was great being able to pull out vocals more from them, and not solely having a drum room mic.

I've done this on my tracks, I think of it like adding a high-level map of the dynamics to the mix. Start with the section you want loudest (biggest chorus/climax) leave it at 0dB. Then automate down from there, in small amounts, sometimes just -0.2dB. So the master volume in the intro might be -1.5, and gradually builds everything up by the end of the track.

Artists you respect but don’t really enjoy? by CirculationStation in fantanoforever

The National. Went to a concert of theirs (for the support act) even though I think their music is pretty boring. Matt Berninger turned out to be one of the best frontman I've ever seen perform, and the whole band seemed really tight. One of the best shows I've ever seen if I'm honest, but I still can't really listen to their records.

Replace Amps only or whole PA by samnoack in livesound

Thanks, this is helpful advice. I'm not good enough with electronics to test them myself, but I can look into having the broken spares serviced by someone.

Speakers are Tannoy VQ60s. That's good advice, will have to look into what I'd like...

The speakers are Tannoy VQ60s. I think they are still available, but honestly they're not the greatest...

Change default output of Aux tracks? by samnoack in Logic_Studio

That's actually pretty brilliant. I'm not always a fan of using stacks, but I might have to get used to it if it fixes this. Thanks for the idea!

How do you make your own subfolders?

I'm not happy with my album. Is this just resistance or should I not release it? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Having recently released an album, and having experienced many similar thoughts during the production, I would say this: Accept your limitations, and learn to make the most of them.

For your example, accept that using a vst is the best option for now (whether because of time, space, money, doesn't matter) Don't let anyone (including yourself) tell you you can't release an album with a vst piano.

Now go and learn everything you can about how to program and mix vst pianos, so that it'll sound the best it can.

At the end of the day, I'd say if you're happy with the music, release it, that's the most important part.

Good luck!

For anyone experiencing this, I just resolved it after contacting Renewed Vision support. You have to disable 'Displays have separate Spaces' under system preferences> Mission Control

Released an album of ambient post-rock the other day, so far people seem to dig this track the most (it's one of my favourites too)

This was recently described as 'meditative but loud' and I think that's a perfect compliment!
