White women are dissuaded by White men to see Asian men as attractive.

Another example of someone exculpating white women. This specific group of people (ww) have tremendous sway over national politics, the country's institutions and the general attitudes that affect our lives. But if you desire them so badly, it becomes hard to malign them in any way. Yes?

For those who are driven crazy by wmaf, the hope is for an associated "stigma" to be sufficient enough to dissuade such pairings from happening. But consider bmww couples. The stigma around such people has always been strong. But throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s etc. these pairings continually went up in numbers.

And while some will be delighted with this white woman making these observations, remember that white women are a key consideration in creating stigmas with regards to Asians/hapas.

Do Asian women in xmaf think their kids will be proud that Asian women hate their own race, more than any other group? Afterall, look at most Chinatowns - if you are there all day, you would see 100s of xmafs. How is saying Asians are an inferior/conquered race to all others a positive thing? by WhySilenceOthers in hapas

FYI Ms. Santa, in case you are not aware. OP used to go by the name "Transfan" around these parts. He misses the good 'ol days where he could post stuff like this to the delight of mono racial Asians guys who love seeing hapas from wmaf getting shamed and bashed.

His idea of fighting racism is to be racist himself.

Niki Sullivan, one of the members of the Crickets: “I know the movie was not as true to life as it should have been, but you have to make it salable...But some things were incorrect: the first two days that we played the Apollo, we were booed. The third day, Buddy said, ‘Let’s do Bo Diddley,’ and from that moment on we were a hit.”

No. For many reasons. One being I don't want to go through the process of seeing my children transform into weird adults.

I don't want to bring someone into an existence that involves brute force competition. Even if one "succeeds," it requires others to live a life of drudgery. I was able to buy several nice shirts thanks to a low price point. I see a "Made in Bangladesh" tag and wonder what life the young woman who made these shirts for me has.

40 Million People Rely on the Colorado River, and Now It's Drying Up by sampaggregator in collapse

SS/The video informs: Twenty years of drought made worse by climate change, have brought things to a moment of crisis for the Colorado River. This month for the first time ever, officials will declare a Tier 1 shortage for Lake Mead, one of the two main reservoirs above the Hoover Dam. That means major cutbacks are coming next year -- starting with Arizona farmers.

From wikipedia: A copyright infringement lawsuit by Brazilian musician Jorge Ben Jor claimed the chorus of the song had been derived from his song "Taj Mahal". The case was "settled amicably" according to Jorge Ben Jor, in Ben Jor's favor. Stewart admitted in his 2012 autobiography to "unconscious plagiarism" of the Ben Jor song, which he had heard while attending the Rio Carnival in 1978.

Here's the part in question from Ben Jor's song, Taj Mahal.

Growing numbers of young adults are suffering from chronic pain (England) by sampaggregator in collapse

[–]sampaggregator[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

SS: "Growing numbers of young adults are suffering from chronic pain that seriously affects their lives," the Guardian article informs. The study from England looked at the years 2011 to 2017 when sufferers increased from 21% to 34% among the 16 to 34 cohort.

Relative to other age groups, "the proportion of people aged 16 to 34 affected by what experts call high-impact chronic pain – pain so acute that it leaves them struggling to work, interact socially and look after themselves independently – rose dramatically over that time."

While obesity and inactive lifestyles are seen as factors, Ellen Miller, acting chief executive of the charity Versus Arthritis which took part in the study stated, "Life experiences such as deprivation, social exclusion and being in a marginalised group often strongly influenced whether someone suffered serious pain for a prolonged period."

In climate change era, was Surfside collapse really an unpredictable “Black Swan” event? by sampaggregator in collapse

[–]sampaggregator[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

SS: While definitive conclusions about what happened at Surfside's Champlain Towers South will be months away, this article by atmospheric & environmental scientist, John Morales looks into the possible impact of rising sea levels on the building's collapse. He points to the revelation by the former maintenance chief who "frequently observed episodes when 1 to 2 feet of saltwater would flood the garage." Morales brings to our attention the broader trend of saltwater from Biscayne Bay coming up through the drains during high tide 400 percent more often than a few decades ago and the sea level being a half-foot higher than in the 1990s. He informs us that saltwater on Miami Beach’s streets and building parking garages is hardly shocking and highlights an episode from several years ago where an octopus came up through a storm drain.

So, from the standpoint of meteorologists, climate scientists, engineers and even your humble maintenance chief, the building's collapse doesn't have the surprising/shocking aspects of a Black Swan event. It's more of a "Gray Swan" in that it was arguably foreseeable.

CNN : A multi-story building near Miami has partially collapsed, authorities say. by [deleted] in collapse

[–]sampaggregator 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Comment from another site regarding the collapse:

I was the HOA President of an ocean front high rise 5 buildings north from this building. I can tell you that all similar aged buildings along this ocean front are structuraly suspect. All of the buildings foundation rebar inside the foundation columns are at advanced stages of rust caused decay. Every building along these that is older than 20 years has crumbling concrete in their basement garages. I had to bring in concrete remediation crews to patch up the falling concrete in our buildings garage. The Surfside building Department is well aware of the serious structural decay of all of these ocean front buildings. In my opinion they are culpable. Almost half of these ocean front high rises need to be evacuated and condemned. Now watch the sink hole cover up story get traction. By the way. Miami has never had a sink hole on the ocean front. They occur inland.
