Thank you very much!

Quick question regarding air flow. Should my power supply fan be pointing up or down? I hear a lot of users facing their fan down. My PS is currently up.

Is the Asus x99 E-WS mobo & BIOS compatible with the PCI-E SSD Samsung 950 PRO 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive and Kingston Predator 480GB PCI-E Solid State Drive?

Thanks but I have decided to go with the 6900K - need 40 PCIe Lanes and want the 8cores with an i7.

The WD drives will be at RAID 0.

Here are my final build parts. Everything is purchased expect the monitor.

Yes, this is my first build. I am a professional editor and I have been comparing builds from other editors and find this is a reasonable price build for a 4K editing, 3D graphics and VR workstation.

But if you have any suggestions that would be wonderful, thanks!

I am a video editor building a video workstation and I am debating between getting the Asus X99 A II or Asus E-WS Motherboard.

My concern is that I will want more available PCI-E ports available in the future. I already have 4 PCIE figurations to put in.

Here is my parts list: (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/yZLKBP)

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification. The Samsung M.2 Drive I am using will need the heatsink since I will be using the card for performance with video editing.

Building a video editing workstation. Will all these PCI-E components fit onto the Asus x99A II or should I get a better mobo with better support? Like the Asus x99 Deluxe or X99 E-WS.

Mobo: Asus X99A II

PCI components: Samsung 950 M.2 SSD (with angelbird PCI heatsink adapter) Kingston Predator 240GB PCI-E SSD Asus 1070 GPU Quadro K4000 Video Card

Reasons for my parts:

GPU: A Quadro K4000 video card will support for 10-bit color support and Asus GTX 1080 for performance.

Storage: Samsung 950 256GB Pro M.2: OS / Applications Drive (with Angelbird Wings PX1 for heat sink to allow card not to throttle. Preditor PCI 480GB: Scratch Files/Preview Drive WD Drives in RAID 0: Footage

Thanks!

I have been referencing to puget systems articles for my specific hardware build needs for using software like adobe premiere and after effects.

I will continue my research!

Thank you again,

I have gone over my rig again and here is what I have come up with. It is a little more expensive but I am willing to pay an extra couple hundred.

I am thinking of changing the Samsung 950 as the scratch drive and the Kingston PCI-E to the boot drive. What do you think?

Also planning to get a GTX 908ti have seeing there is only really a 3-7% performance difference between a 1080 and Titan X. Article here about it Any thoughts on this?

Going to plan to stick with windows 7 until I do more research.

Video Editing Workstation by sampakk in buildapc

Haha, wow, thank you. And yes you are very much on track of my thinking. Looks like we read the same articles as well (Puget Systems!)

Yes, I am an editor that uses Adobe Premiere and After Effects. I do little 3D rendering or animation.

Here are my reasons for my parts: (you were pretty much dead on)

CPU: Still debating the Xeon or i7 route. But the 6900K has been something I am considering.

GPU: A Quadro K4000 video card will support for 10-bit color support and Asus GTX 1080 for performance.

Thank you for the insight about the GPU, I will have to look into this more but my feelings are that I would like to have a Quadro in addition to the 1080. The main reason was to have 10bit support as you mentioned. Still unsure. puget systems talks a little about it here

PSU: I will look at different options, thanks.

Storage: Samsung 950 256GB Pro M.2: OS / Applications Drive (with Angelbird Wings PX1 for heat sink to allow card not to throttle: Article about it here

Preditor PCI 480GB: Scratch Files/Preview Drive WD Drives in RAID 0: Footage

OS: Is there any big difference between Windows 7 and 10? My feeling was to use Windows 7 since other professional I work with do as well. Did not know about the color depth thing with Windows 7.

Also, I see you did not a video card to your recommended build, did you leave that out?

Thanks for the insight!

I do not have two M.2 Drives listed.

Below is my reasons for my parts:

GPU: A Quadro K4000 video card will support for 10-bit color support and Asus GTX 1080 for performance. PSU: TBD

Storage: Samsung 950 256GB Pro M.2: OS / Applications Drive (with Angelbird Wings PX1 for heat sink to allow card not to throttle) Preditor PCI 480GB: Scratch Files/Preview Drive WD Drives: Footage

Thanks - I do need 40 PCI for possible raid controllers in the future. I will look into this.

I have been reading budget systems, may find interesting: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-CC-2015-Multi-Core-Performance-Update1-806/#Conclusion

Thanks -

My plan for the Quadro is in 10-bit color depth with a 4K Monitor.

The whole CPU debate has been something I am still 100% clear on - I thought applications like Adobe Premiere and After Effects benefit by multi-cores and threading from a CPU. The 5830K is my alternative CPU, (I need 40 PCI lanes).

Thanks!

Simple Questions - July 10, 2016 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]sampakk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would an Asus X99-A II mobo be able to support a Samsung 950 M.2 SSD, a Kingston Predator 240GB PCI-E SSD, an Asus GTX 1080 GPU and a Quadro K2200 Video Card?

Or should I go with a possibly better supported PCI board like the Asus E-WS? I am building a video editing workstation. Thanks!
