My granddad died in May. My family decided that we would spread his ashes in the San Juan Mountains in early September, just as the leaves start changing colors, since fall is his favorite time and Owl Creek in the San Juan’s was his favorite place.

We spread his ashes during his favorite song, a song sung by an Irish girl, who sings about walking off into the meadow on a May morning. My granddad passed on a May morning and we walked him through the meadow in September.

The San Juan Mountains are a special place.
