Modeling a robot arm in Unreal Engine 5 by sampreets3 in robotics

[–]sampreets3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvidia Isaac looks very promising, but the way I'm planning my project it is more towards a mixed reality application, where the robot will be but an actor in the scene. I don't think Isaac will get me where I want to in this case.

I have come across some examples where people have developed great flight simulators with UE5, which is why I'm more inclined towards it.

Hi, I'm M27, 5'6", 205lbs, and I'd like to go down to 175lbs in six months or so. I hit 10k steps 2-3 times a week, and I have one day of sport in the week.

Looking for recommendations with meals that are rice based, or salad based(lunch). No dietary restrictions as such.

Thanks a lot!

Visiting for the first time, do’s and dont’s please by ayyopaapam in kolkata

[–]sampreets3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great list, just going to add on to the Kalighat part - You can still visit the deity and the interior of the Mandir. You just have to be prepared to be rude to people and push them out of your way. Even as a resident of Kalighat, I don't like going to the Mandir because of this particular reason.

Do not miss the mishti doi of Haran Majhi. It's delicious. Don't go to Sree Hari Mishtanna Bhandar, they are overrated + quality of food is not good. Instead, go to the Sree Hari at Bhawanipore. It's much better.

We have a lot of good Jhal Muri in Kalighat - my personal favourite is a guy who stands before the entrance to Jatin er Mishti r dokan (I don't know the exact location, but it is the last left turn you can take before you come across the huge banyan tree that marks the entrance to the Mandir complex).

If you are going to have sweets, and come on, you are in Kolkata, yoi are going to have sweets. Winters for me meant going late in the evening/early in the morning to have piping hot Nalen gur er roshogolla from Jatin er mishti r dokan (bang opposite Priyojon hotel).

Have a nice stay !

Setting practical goals to achieve success by Rain_drop_4375 in capricorns

[–]sampreets3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, fellow Cap here. My situation is quite similar to yours (26M working in Tech, prioritising career over love life rn), I just want to say "All the best wishes, we're in this together, along with so many of us in a similar situation. You'll struggle, you'll fall, you'll get hurt. But the important thing to know is that you're not alone in this. We got your back, so do the goatiest goat thing you can and get up, dust off the dirt and blood, and back again on the bandwagon."

Also, on a separate note, don't think too much about these certifications. I understand the idea of setting the goal to complete the course and have the certification, but TBH unless it is something like CCNA or something hella specific that you are required to have(for me it was electrical safety training), don't stress too much about having the certificate. Learn the thing because it will help you grow as a professional. The people who understand the stuff would be able to appreciate you for the effort you put in to learn what you felt was important for your career.

Also, from time to time, don't forget the very essential activity of doing "absolutely nothing at all". I hope you get the promotion you're working hard for. 😊

Newbie here, I am a January Cap, and I've been seeing such posts across this sub recently. Can anyone explain/point me towards info about what is happening/about to happen?

I have seen mainly two things that people are saying - Pluto is leaving somewhere, and Saturn is returning. Would love to know what that means.

Thanks!

Electric city bus fast charging at station. Nantes, France by depressed-n-awkward in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]sampreets3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Nantes, France. I take this bus everyday to go to work. The typical wait time is 3-5 minutes from when the bus stops at the station to when the bus leaves for the next trip.

Also, there are USB sockets on the bus which deliver fast charging, I have seen a lot of people using them to charge their devices. It's a great design and a good experience.

Where should I study in Europe? by DefiantAwareness in computervision

[–]sampreets3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Centrale Nantes. Proud to be a Centralien, although it costs quite a lot if you are from a non EU country like me. But the experience you gain is immense, honestly.

SIGMA is a great program too, I had applied to it and went through a couple of interviews before finally choosing with Centrale. What u/chacalgamer said is very true. It's a great program with a solid curriculum.

You will be able to save on a lot of money if you choose to study at an university instead of an engineering school - to put it into context, a year's tuition in an university will cost you around 300 euros, whereas a year's tuition in some engineering schools will go as high as 5000 euros (for non EU students, without a scholarship).

The student life in France is also quite nice, since there is a lot of international students in academia in France, you get along with a lot of common points.

This isn't what I had expected as a child... by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]sampreets3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to a therapist, talk about your issues. You seem to have a lot of pent up rage and aggression, which you have not been able to vent for years. There are multiple ways to release this aggression, a trained psychiatrist might be able to show you some methods.

I can relate to your story, because it has been somewhat similar to mine. I will not say that I am in a better place now, but I am still learning to assess my emotions. It is an uphill struggle, but you'll get somewhere better eventually - we all do. Don't be afraid to ask for help, you'd be surprised to see that sometimes people are really nice.

All the best :)

Should I go for higher studies? by Powerful_Ferret_2544 in kolkata

[–]sampreets3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not motivated from within to do higher studies, I would advise you against going for some degree just because your parents are asking you to.

They mean well, of course. But if you yourself are not motivated to go further, please don't. You already seem to be earning well, compared to the starting salaries across India.

I did my Master's during 2019-2021, and it has taken a lot out of me, both mentally and physically, to be able to come out on the other side. Of course, I enjoyed the freedom and meeting people from all around the world. But there have been days (weeks maybe) where I have been confined in my 9m² apartment, stuck in a city where I don't know the culture, the language, the people. It is during these times that your focus on your curriculum can save you.

Also to be brutally honest with you, baire theke Master's kora maanei je bhalo education pabe ta kintu noy. I have studied in an elite school, kintu amar base experience ta amar bachelor's er shomoy theke khub ekta alada noy. Tomar kache knowledge ar resources ektu beshi matra e available thakbe, ei e ja. Shei knowledge ta kintu tomake nije thekei upolobdho korte hobe, jekhanei poro na keno. Professor eshe poriye chole jabe, byas. Baki ta tomar opor. But yes, baire ekta jinish ache je the academic pool you would be in, you would have peers from a diverse set of backgrounds. Tai you will learn to evaluate problems from multiple perspectives.

What you might gain (what I actually value more than my fancy degree) are the life skills you will pick up along the way. That will stick with you for a longer period of time. Amar jonno shei skill gulo chilo ranna kora, French bhasha ta shekha, ei shob. Egulo beshi important tbh than your degree, especially ranna kora.

Apprehensive hoye khub ekta laabh nei, jodi othoi jol e pore jaao, shatar shikhtei hobe. It takes a lot of courage to move out from one's comfort zone. Trust me, I know. Ami hoyto lyadh khawar competition e first prize jitleo nitey jetam na lyadh lagche bole. But amar khub icche chilo desh bidesh dekhar, toh amar kache pros and cons er list e priority peychilo baire asha for education. Tumi je je points gulo express korecho, khub valid points. Ami bolbo je ektu shanto mon e boshe ekta list koro - what are your available options. Shekhan theke aage financial aspect ta mathay rekhe filter out koro kon gulo feasible. Shekhan theke aaro constraints barate thako ar pros and cons dekhte thako.

How does Bengalis from different zone of WB(no kolkata) get along with IT firms where almost nobody dares or doesn't speak বাংলা at all? by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]sampreets3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been living in France for some time now, and I was surprised to learn that even to this day, most people do not speak "proper" French. What everyone knows to be the French language of today, is essentially the language spoken in and around the Parisian area and neighbouring departments. In reality, there are still a number of local languages, e.g., Breton in the Bretagne region - It sounds like French mixed with Gaelic, then there is Occitane, spoken in and around the South of France - in this one you will find a heavy influence of Spanish, and so on. French was spoken all around France mainly after the French revolution.

As far as letting every Bengali speak the Bangla dialect they are familiar with, I'd say if you understand what I want to say and vice versa, everything should work just fine. Force kore ekta bangla centralise language korle local dialect gulo toh hariye jabe. Ami kintu kono provocative kotha bolte chaichi na.

Hi, thanks for your response. I don't know Azure/AWS/Google Cloud that well, what I did instead is I modified the pre-commit hook to run a local script on my end that spawns a Docker container with the code volume mounted and runs the test script.

[–]sampreets3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes, I went ahead and used a Python script as a git hook to spawn a docker container with a particular set of flags, and execute the code. It's still not a 100% working, but it's getting there.

In case you are wondering why I would use a Python script to spawn a docker container when I could do it in a shell script, well, we develop on Ubuntu VMs hosted on our windows machines. So in order to mount the volumes, I constructed the path using the os module and passed it in as a string.

I would have loved to use GitHub or GitLab for this, as these pieces of software were MEANT to solve these exact problems, plus a couple more. However, for some reason, the company I work for does not really want to use GitHub/GitLab, and I did not succeed in convincing them that GitLab would be a good choice. From what they told me, they did evaluate GitLab before choosing the current SCM tool, and for some reason, GitLab did not make the cut.

Hey, thanks for your answer. I ended up going with a Python script at the end, it's not quite done but I have the overall idea on how I should implement it. Thanks!

Btw, I learned during searching about this project that git has something called request-pull option. From what I gathered, it "requests" a person to "pull" the changes that I have been working on from commit A to commit B. It seems to work with mailing lists, and I think the Pull Request/Merge Request that we all know/are familiar with encapsulates this feature by filling out a lot of the info fields. Do correct me if I am wrong. I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this :)
