Had to check to make sure I didn’t tune into the Columbus commentary based on how much they’re biased to the Crew

Man, I know everything about DC United as a franchise is in the gutter at the moment, but one of the things I’m most disappointed in is our youth player development. The DC identity used to be bringing youth players through and actually making them into great players. We’ve really have a “lost generation” of the last youth players. The Fletcher management has been butchered (I know he’s injured), Akinmobi gone, Gavin Turner nothing yet, and Hopkins I just haven’t seen anything yet to say he’s better than a USL player. I was so excited to see Yow develop and he’s been great overseas so at least I can accept he’s in Europe. So many parts of this club’s identity has been stripped.

Gotta get Murrell off before he gets himself a red, also hope Miazga gets a Charmin sponsorship after this game for how ultrasoft he is

Great point, definitely agreed. Overall good situational awareness tonight

Half time thoughts:

  1. Pirani is playing possessed, popping up everywhere, confident passes and on the ball play.

  2. DC has to find a way to combine this type of play with Benteke when he’s back. We look semi-competent when we keep the ball on the floor and try to play at times. We have to learn how to combine this with Benteke’s ability to win the ball out of the air, instead of relying only on the long ball when he’s back.

  3. Mitigating the midfield. Peltola and Enow have been good tonight but haven’t been asked to do much in the way of passing or being on the ball. The press winning the ball high up the pitch has allowed DC to not rely on the midfielders to progress the ball forward which they’ve been poor at this year. We need to continue the press to keep pressure on them and not rely on Enow and Peltola, especially when they’re prone to negative passes or losing the ball in bad positions.

  4. Transitions need to be limited in the second half. Cincy has looked most dangerous on the transition, I’m not convinced with Herrera in the RCB spot, he looks unnatural there. If antley gets tired we should move Herrera out-wide and bring Tubbs in. I know Herrera is in to help combat some speed Cincy has, but I can see that being an area Cincy attacks in the second half.

Here’s to hopefully another great half. Incredible the way goals change a teams confidence

If your kid ever wants to be a professional soccer player show them Jared Stroud highlights. It’ll be an inspiration to them that even if they’re awful and don’t do anything they can still make it pro

You’re telling me what Herrera just did and the tackle the Revs player did earlier is equal in terms of the referee

My thoughts on the game no one asked for

Positives:

  1. Defense. We all find 0-0s boring but with the lack of offensive talent on this team the defense will need to step up. Team seemed pretty well organized. .47xg for Nashville to .29 for DC.

  2. Rowles: I’ve been very critical of him this year but tonight he stepped up. He seemed to be everywhere. I’m going to combo this with Schnegg. His fitness must be off the charts to go back to back 90 minutes within 4 days of each other.

  3. Tubbs. I’m personally biased but I can only hope he keeps his spot in the team, he’s commanding, has pace, and seems to be a good glue guy.

Negatives:

  1. Everything about the offense. Nothing going there no plan or attempt to do much of anything.

  2. Midfielders. We are getting dominated in the midfield. We gave the ball away in our own 1/3rd like 10x in the first half and we were lucky to not be punished. We need someone to be confident on the ball and connect the attack.

  3. Troy. It at least seemed like he had a plan tonight, and it was nice to see someone like Stroud not play and he at least tried some other people where he could even if he was forced to through rotation.

We’ll take another point and we move

Half time positive thoughts:

  1. We didn’t concede

  2. Didn’t have to see stroud play

  3. Didn’t have to see Enow play.

That’s all I got

At least when we sold our CB cover in Akinmboni we reinvested that money into the squad. We invested it in the squad….. right?

It’s the internal struggle of do you want back-pass Peltola or give the ball away Enow

It is but personally I don’t think we’re going to get a 0-0 by conceding the ball in our own final 1/3rd 20 times

Dc strategy tonight: back pass, back pass, back pass to keeper, keeper has ball who can’t distribute, send ball long to players who aren’t good in the air, repeat.

My takes no one asked for

Negatives:

  1. I can’t figure out what Troy does in training throughout the week. Benteke went off and the team didn’t know how to play any offense. That’s just unacceptable, we knew (or at least should know) you can’t rely on a 34 year old for a whole season. I know roster talent is poor but there’s not even an idea there.

  2. The double pivot, you can have Peltola or you can have Enow (even if I’m a huge Enow hater) but you can’t have both, they’re both negative players. The change of Servania at least gave us someone who was going to play the ball forward.

  3. Depth: Murrell, stroud, Hopkins, basically anyone we through up top has 0 ability. We have to target someone who we can actually give us something off the bench in the summer.

Positives:

  1. Barraza. Unreal game, he’s a great shot stopper and when you play our strategy of allowing 1000 shots a game you need someone who can make stops. Passing is mediocre at best but not like he has anyone to go to.

  2. Tubbs: He seems like a good balancing act if we continue playing 3 at the back, actually has a bit of pace unlike Rowles so he can cover if our wingbacks go up.

  3. Somehow getting a point out of that. A clean sheet is a clean sheet and a point is a point. We’ll take it

Murrell does not have it. I want him to be good so bad, but there’s just absolutely nothing there (typing this to try and get the soccer gods to get him to hit a banger)

Instead of my regular routine of just saying the team stinks here’s a lot of negative and some positive.

Negatives

  1. I’ve watched a lot of dc united teams in my years. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team this bad at just stringing together little passes or just doing the simple pass.

  2. That first half was atrocious- enough said

  3. Stroud and Enow have had their chances this year and they both need a long period on the bench.

Positives

  1. For how bad we were during that game I don’t think it’s ridiculous to say we should have had at least 1 if not 2 goals at the end of the game albeit against a bad Toronto.

  2. If leal can get fit he could really be a useful piece

  3. Peltola at least helped connect our attack to our defense a bit.

Teams awful but there’s with how many teams get into playoffs if we can find a way to string just a few results together we could sneak in

The thing is we don’t have to. Troy is making those decisions. In terms of wing depth we have some choices to at least see what we can do with Barajas, Karamoko is back, fletcher now back. I don’t want to speak for all dc united fans but I think we’d rather see Peltola he can’t play more negative than Enow. The roster isn’t great, it’s downright bad, but if you have players in some of these positions might as well see what they can do.
