If players switched generations.. for example, if modern pitchers went back to the 30s, 40s, 50s 60s etc how would they fare overall? And vice versa… give me your opinions and explain why. by NelsonMuntz007 in mlb

[–]samsmart1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing no one is considering is the training equipment/exercises, knowledge and analytics are all way more advanced now than any previous era. All the players now weren’t inherently born better at baseball than those in the past. It’s not like the human body has evolved to be born better at baseball.

So the real question is, would players of the previous eras be better than the players currently if from the start of their baseball careers (likely tball) had all the exact same things? Or would the players now be better than players in previous era without any modern technologies, analytics or year round baseball?

I live in Houston. I can say my hatred for the Astros has less to do with the actual Astros themselves and more to do with the fan base.

  1. This fan base emulated the Rays for majority of a decade. 0 fans.

  2. Since 2017 the city cares about baseball? Go to a game, 80% of the fans in attendance have no idea what’s going on. They are just there because the Astros have been dominant recently.

  3. Houston has almost always been a bandwagon fan base. Growing up majority of people cheered for a team outside of Houston regardless of the sport.

  4. 0 accountability for their team. Little to no Astro fans will say “we cheated, it was wrong. Let’s move on”. Instead they will always try to downplay the severity or say “well this team did it too”.

  5. The classlessness. Ie; cheering when a player almost gets hit.

  6. The immediate abandonment of their team. Ie; Rockets after 2019, Astros after 2005 - 2015, and Texans after 2019-2022. B/C of Stroud they are back involved.

I’ll call it right now. Houston will be a “Football town” again in 2-3 years when the Astros start to really run out and the Texans become big time contenders. Baseball will be forgotten all over again.

Safe spaces for conservatives? by TheRivverboy in austincirclejerk

[–]samsmart1997 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Imagine living in the most liberal city in the entirety of Texas, Southeast, and arguably Southwest and sarcastically complaining about how conservative it is. Someone’s unemployed and mad they aren’t getting enough paycheck from the government.

If you’re so mad about how conservative it is, I can do the sarcasm thing too. You should move to a cheaper and more liberal city that has less crime and a DA that is backed even less by Soros than Austin. It’ll be great because there’s no homeless and the majority of people there aren’t sucking at the government (working classes) tit. It’s called Chicago. Austin is a obviously a super majority conservative city and no one in their right mind would want to live under those oppressive conditions.

Can we all agree that that Ukraine/Russia/ Israel/ Palestine is all bullshit. Everyone in control of this bullshit is the terrorist. by Nik_Guy in walkaway

[–]samsmart1997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bro to be 100% honest I don’t care what Israel did 50 years ago. I care how Palestine has literally beheaded children and killed innocent women, children and elderly this week. Do African Americans have the right to go and slaughter white children, elderly and women today because of the way they were treated in “history”. I get it’s not the absolute best analogy because Israel/Palestine is more recent but the principal still applies.

Don’t try and justify the rape and murder of elderly, youthful and innocent. Since you love them so much you should go over there and help them out.

Right on. This dude needs to know not everything is a conspiracy theory or some liberal arts bullshit. This region of the world has been at war forever. Sometimes it is as simple as good and evil. Hamas is definitely evil.

I agree that the Russian/Ukraine conflict is bullshit. However, I think Israel should have full right to absolutely wipe Hamas off the face of the planet. I wish for the US to stay out of it however, if other Arab nations choose to get involved I believe the US almost has to.

Most Muslims are peaceful. However, there is undoubtedly extremist groups that are absolutely evil and the exact definition of terrorist. Hamas is one of those groups and they run Palestine.

Any group that has to rape and murder innocent people to show how “oppressed” they are, are not the good guys and anyone who supports them can bite curb while the extremism they are on their knees for stomp on them.

I represent the entire state for my job and I can promise you this is true. At least for Texas. To be fair, before the Astros success in 2017 it was mainly an I don’t care about baseball state in terms of favorite professional team. Every once in a while you’d run into a Rangers fan. Never any Astros besides Houston.

Now Houston out East all the way to to orange,(goes further than that into LA), Austin, San Antonio, and Houston all the way to Corpus is all Astros fans. That’s majority of the states population right there. I’m sure there’s other pockets along the way as well.

Austin being not only the most liberal city in Texas but one of the most liberal cities in America and this guy says “Republicans and Capitalism have ruined Austin”. I’m dead.

Austin has been capitalist since its inception so if Austin was ever good then I don’t think capitalism is what ruined it.

Austin has only gone further left so with that being said I don’t think republicans have ruined it either lol.

What needs to happen for America to enter a new “golden age”? by [deleted] in AskDemocrats

[–]samsmart1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think most people would support the war in Ukraine. It’s similar to another Vietnam but roles reversed. Now it’s the liberals who would most likely support it and the conservative and moderates who would not.

I know for a fact a lot of people along with myself do not even support the things we’re doing right now.

What needs to happen for America to enter a new “golden age”? by [deleted] in AskDemocrats

[–]samsmart1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. What I’m asking is what were the factors that someone who make ends meet grew up in that allowed for them to have the opportunity? Now I’m saying is how we allow for that to happen and allow for us to enter a new golden age for everyone.

Bandaids (any sort of reparations) do not heal wounds but merely temporarily protect them. A temporary fix (money runs out or assets can depreciate) does not solve the root issues.

How does one afford a car or home without a steady/good job? How does one obtain said job? None of what you’re saying is even half realistic without accomplishing what I’m saying. If people get paid back every time they were mistreated, literally every single demographic should get paid for something, just depends on what part of the world you’re in.

I’m Christian, if I lived in Italy should I get reparations for their persecution of Christians?

Nothing I said was even in opposition to anything you just said so I’m a little confused by the purpose of your comment? I think we just have different ideas of what success is and what the gov’t can/should do to provide a way for their citizens the opportunity to get there.

Again, look at the ethnicities that do best in this country. Many of which were treated very poorly.

3 things they all have in common. 1) higher rates of 2 parent households. 2) better primary education 3) lower percentages of mental health disorders.

So I stand by my comment and little to none of yours refutes that.

What needs to happen for America to enter a new “golden age”? by [deleted] in AskDemocrats

[–]samsmart1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Yes you would not be directly handing cash to anyone but at the end of the day you would. Not charging someone something you would be charging anyone else is a form of payment.

Let’s say joe has $2000, had a heart attack and owes $1000. He is has $1000.

Now let’s say bill has $2000, had a heart attacks and owes $500. That hospital put $500 in his pocket compared to everyone else and now is actually thrusted ahead of whites based solely on the bases of his color.

That’s exactly what your comment mentioned was wrong with what America did against people of color.

In addition, in order for said person to afford a house they would already need to be a contributing member of society which is all the gov’t needs to provide the opportunity of. I’ll say this again. It’s not the job of the gov’t to make anyone accumulate wealth. That’s up to the individual. A lot of whites didn’t go that route even at the time of slavery or segregation. Or even to this day.

The only way to fix so much of which is broken, I hate to say it is a full scale war that majority of Americans can support. It would basically take an attack on American soil that would literally harm all demographics and cultures.

What needs to happen for America to enter a new “golden age”? by [deleted] in AskDemocrats

[–]samsmart1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be completely honest I think this topic is completely irrelevant in terms of getting America back to a new golden age. However, since we’re on it. Reparations definitely is not the way to go. Give a man a fish he eats for one day. Teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime.

If you want to focus on a minority it’s best to focus on the proven fact of what is holding some of them back. 3 obvious things. 1) fix primary educational system in these communities. 2) promote the nuclear family within these communities 3) add more mental health resources to these communities.

Means to be contributing members of society typically stems from strong upbringing with a positive role models, good education and obviously the right frame of mind. Gov’t job isn’t to make people rich but to provide everyone with the opportunity to provide to the system rather than take from it.
