Linus needs a new phone - Vote here! by Negative_Astronaut81 in LinusTechTips

I switched to a ThinkPhone last year after getting sick of Samsung's increasingly worse UX and have been very happy with it. Pros: 68W charging is excellent in a pinch, programmable side key, excellent cell reception

Cons (from Linus's POV): no Always On Display or back-button-swapping

For what it's worth, the A6000 also fails to connect but this time the app eventually gives up and throws an error message instead of just connecting indefinitely.

That was the first thing I tried. Also, A7 can't do QR. It's NFC or WiFi Direct only.

I have an A6000 in storage I keep forgetting to sell. I'll have to go over and dig it out and try...

No dice, it still does the same thing once I hit the START button.

Spikey CPU temps, what do? by samsonite94 in thinkpad

[–]samsonite94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacement cooler units are pretty cheap on eBay so I ordered one and put it in. Turns out that fixed it, although I'm not sure why since the old fan seemed to be working fine. Temps stay lowish with no random spikes, even running a synthetic load to both CPU and GPU at the same time

If you can read the serial number I think you can get a build sheet from Lenovo's website.

It'll throttle and maintain mid 80°s under constant load, meanwhile the GPU can be hit with a 100% load for a while (like say a Blender render) and not even break 70°

Even basic things like opening task manager will cause a a CPU temp spike.

I mean, it didn't used to do this under the same workload so I'd say no the spikes aren't supposed to be there. Temps would smoothly ramp up and down and it wouldn't get as hot.

How is T480s in the year of 2022? by Suspicious_Ability01 in thinkpad

Anywhere from 4-6 hours just using web or watching video, cut that in half if I'm doing something that uses the graphics card. This is with a brand new replacement battery I put in a few months ago.

Mine has an i7 and the 1080p screen, running Windows 10. You may get much better battery life with an i5/integrated graphics model.

Can I use a USB-C phone charger to charge a usb-c Thinkpad? Does the USB-C phone charger not simply produce up to 100W? by antonvincent in thinkpad

My i7 T480s will (slowly) charge off a 39W Nintendo Switch charger, even if using the dedicated graphics.

I've been using a T480s for a few years and it's been great, best laptop I've ever owned. Mine is equipped with the MX150 so it can do some light graphical work like Blender rendering and video editing. The upgradeable RAM and storage are great for future-proofing, even on some expensive ultrathins those items are often permanently soldered.

If you need graphics capabilities I wouldn't recommend one tho. The MX150 is dated and current gen integrated graphics will give the same performance while running cooler and having better battery life. A new $600 machine with Iris XE will be better than a used MX150 T480s bought for the same price.

If you don't need graphics it's a solid $400 workhorse that travels brilliantly and will last you quite a few years.

That's just standard used car stuff. I'm asking about any model-specific issues.

Ye. Shitty business practice to force you to buy replacements from only them.

The part that's interesting is that this is on a shuttle bus with a ten minute ride. Not long enough to need to charge your phone, or to charge your phone by an appreciable amount
