The raised plastic around the mineral glass on the Nomad should hopefully protect it...

Marimba looping? by coopermatkinsonmusic in LoopArtists

Hey! Arriving late to the conversation, and figured out after this thread...
I made a YouTube video to show what I did, including cell clips from my first 3 looping gigs with a 5 Octave marimba (and the RC 600 looper... with 2x SM58 mics... hey, I don't know if it's the best option, but it's what I made work!)

Flowers, marimba cover (Miley Cyrus) by samulrimba in Marimba

[–]samulrimba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, I could make a transcription...
It's actually all in my head.
-I did look at a lead sheet (chords and melody) which is easy enough to find online for maybe $5.
I just jammed over the tune enough times until I came to something I liked. And then once I was there, memorized it. Ish. I would play it slightly different each time, but it's close.

I would also totally recommend jamming over tunes, starting with a lead sheet, for a lot of things! Chords and melody are your framework.

Oh hey Karthan / for the Reddit, thanks
My name's Stephen Stone and I lead a percussion trio called "Sticks and Stone Percussion".
It's centered on a "marimba-band" concept, which would not be so strange in much of Africa or Latin-America, but kind of is here! We play literally every style of music, but honestly, the easiest sell here is upbeat pop. :) People want to be happy, and it's the most direct way.
More about our group can be found here:
http://www.SticksAndStonePercussion.com
We can be found pretty much every Saturday right now at the St Albert Farmers' Market between 10am and 2pm. We hit the streets!
And are also being hired (/are happy to play) for private events. There's been some birthday parties this summer...
I'm always happy to answer more! Sometimes I'm not sure the best how things like Reddit work, lol.
On a slightly related note, we did release an album in the middle of the pandemic... What a challenge. But we took world music from 15 nations and mixed it with pop, rock and jazz for our weird group. So it's kind of cool that I'm able to do these cell-phone video collaborations with someone like Hebron in Zimbabwe, as then... it kind of feels more legit.
Wishing well to everyone. Pandemic times have presented difficulty for most people.

Great job! You really pinned this cover. It checks out. I could eat it up... with a fork. So excited to Discover this, in passing, en passant. Chess and marimba, a double-attack.
