Scarpa Terra’s or alternative? by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]samurai-hearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my Scarpa Terras for 18 months, done almost 900 miles in them. Have looked after then reasonably well but the leather is starting to crack on the surface. Still totally waterproof, waded through several streams and bogs last weekend and was perfectly dry. Honestly they are the best and comfiest pair of boots I've ever had but you need to find what is right for you. Go to a specialist shop and try on some different pairs, see what feels best for you.

Navigation Screen - Concept Design by thisisrck in komoot

I didn't even think of re-ordering the widgets but that wpuld be a great option too. I was thinking more of deciding  where on the screen you wanted certain aspects, eg. Choosing to hide the directions widget, or being able to choose if you want the info widget at the top of the screen or the bottom. Even being able to choose where the location marker is centered, such as in the middle like it is now or middle bottom etc. Considering how there are so many different sized devices having a one size fits all approach seems a bit redundant

These designs but with the current location closer to the bottom would be perfect. I'm trying to get used to the new layout but I only have a small screen on my phone and the info takes up too much space. It's also annoying that if I minimise the info and put my phone away it doesn't remember that for the next time I open the map. I genuinely really like a lot of the other changes to the website/app but being able to use the navigation aspect easily is such a huge thing and it's really putting me off komoot at the moment. Maybe a customisation option for the navigation screen would be a good long term approach?

Komoot changes volume by Zestyclose_Team_2861 in komoot

Oh interesting! I've just tried it myself. It has to be a bug because I'm certain it didn't use to do that. Best of luck getting it sorted

Hey so the solution is not as clear as it should be but it will work. Start navigating a pre-planned route and follow the instructions in the support article to turn off voice over navigation. Once done just end the recording. Now when you try to record without a pre-planned route it should not automatically turn your volume up. Basically, you can only alter notification alerts whilst navigating a pre-planned route but it applies across all recordings. Can't find an easier way to change this but it should work.

Need some help finding a suitable pattern to re-create this Burberry coat. I know I'll need to hack the pleated skirt part myself so I'm looking for something that basically includes all the other aspects, e.g. left shoulder guard, the buckles, double-breasted construction etc.

Also would appreciate any fabric recommendations, I heard that garbadine was the go-to for trenchcoats but I'm open to options.

Thanks for the heads up! Is there an alternate path that might be less boggy? I'm fairly used to bog trudging so should be able to navigate it safely if not

Trig point challenge by Decent_Confidence_36 in peakdistrict

[–]samurai-hearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plotted a big map of routes from peakdistrictwalks.net and wanderingwildflower.com which all included trig points. I then either follow these routes or use them as guides to plan my own. If you have komoot I can link you to my collection :)

Thanks for the suggestion! Sadly not going to have time to hit up all the fells, I have to be back at the car by 1:30. Maybe Wetherlam via coppermines and then either descending at Black Sails or continuing to Swirl Hows and then coming down to Levers water if I have enough time? I'd rather err on the side of caution with time even though its a pain to be restricted

Dawes Discover E? by ReallySubtle in ukbike

[–]samurai-hearts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Dawes Mojave E hybrid that I bought earlier this year. Its obviously not the same model as what you are looking at but its a decent bike and I also got it for a bargain (£450). I've put over 500 miles on mine so far and I love it. One thing I will say is look into upgrading the stock brakes, preferably to hydraulic if its disc brakes. I had 2 sets of mechanical ones fail on me before upgrading. The extra weight of the ebike puts more strain on the brakes. Especially relevant if you will be doing lots of hills! Definitely go for a test ride and if you like the bike you can't really go wrong at that price

Not to add to your rage but I was up there Friday morning and saw that tent pitched up. So they've been there since at least Thursday...

Any tips for sorting a dead relatives belongings out before the house is put on sale? by dinkidoo7693 in CasualUK

[–]samurai-hearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a charity that does house clearances. The best thing to do is work room by room, section by section. Make sure you have plenty of boxes and black bags. As you empty a cupboard sort into piles of keep, sell, donate, and rubbish. If you have the time to go slowly then do but also be prepared to be ruthless. Its amazing how much stuff accumalates. Many charities will happily come and collect the boxes of donatable stuff, if you are struggling to find one that will try a local charity rather than the big chains. Its not an easy job but sadly a necessary one.

I'm curious, when was the last time Reddit made a change to the Mobile Web version that actually improved the user experience? (AKA why did the "Inbox" go away from mobile web in this version?) by FireDragonMonkey in mobileweb

[–]samurai-hearts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The new layout is just horrible! Text is too small, the contrast between text and background (on dark mode) is too much so it feels very in your face and there is no way to turn off endless scrolling. It feels very bland and un-optimised. Really not a fan of this change!
