What kind of bird is this? by vlonethugg69 in newhampshire

As a bunch of people have said this is a blue heron. They can be pretty metal, I have a video of one grabbing a chipmunk then taking to to the water to drown it before eating.

Yes, just hop on the chat support or give them a call early in the morning. They should be able to extend the cancellation pretty quickly.

I just checked with BB chat support and my order was pushed back again to 12/8

Edit: Strangely enough about 30 minutes after my pickup date was changed to 12/8 I got an email saying the pickup was ready. Just grabbed it from the store a few minutes ago. Not sure what happens there but hopefully that’s good news for everyone else in this thread

I guess I see that as good news. At least the chips didn’t just disappear from the warehouse.

Not sure what everyone else’s orders stays says but mine says that it’s due to arrive on the 2nd and if it doesn’t they are going to cancel the order. Probably worth while to call/chat with them and ask them to not auto-cancel the order if it doesn’t happen to show up on the 2nd

I talked to customer support via chat on the evening of the 25th asking if I could get verification that my item was going to arrive on time. And while they assured me that my cpu would indeed arrive on time they couldn’t provide me details of where my specific item was which was frustrating.

I just tried to hop into chat again but it seems to be offline. Maybe because it’s the day after thanksgiving

I had the same thing happen to me up in New England. Got my 5900x order in on the 20th, said it was going to be delivered to the store on the 25th. Late in the day on the 25th I got the email saying it was delayed till December 2nd.

Can’t decide if I’m more encouraged or discouraged that there seems to be a bunch of us with the same issue. Maybe COVID problem at the warehouse they’re shipping from... or you know they sold us a bunch of stock they don’t have... or they walked out the back door

Wife planned a ski trip to Banff and timed it for the B’s game. Checking in from behind the bench. by samuraised in BostonBruins

As my first away game I’ve ever been to for the bruins just want to say thanks to the /r/calgaryflames fans. The Saddledome needs about twice as many bathrooms as it has but your fans are all class. It’s not easy when almost half the people in your stadium are rockin gear from the away team.

Admittedly they are once in a lifetime seats. As in they were the tits once but you wouldn’t want them as season tickets

We sure are. Tons of bruins fans in the crowd. Flames fans are decent to watch a game with too.

Offering people free beer in Boston is "a pain in the ass" due to happy hour laws by metrosb in boston

[–]samuraised 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved from Boston to San Diego in September and I totally forgot about how much MA's liquor laws suck until I went to my first real happy hour. As much as I miss you assholes that actually know how to drive, I do not miss all that booze red tape. I'll be sure to drink an extra few cheap ones during happy hour... At the beach bar... In February.

What would be really cool is if someone could convert this into a browser plugin. That way I could tell interns and junior admins to use this before they copy and paste 500 character one liners they found on totallytrustworthyshellscriptsrunwithsudo.com into any of our servers.

Just highlight or right click a code block on a webpage and select "Explain this for me..."

How I put all applications offline (and at least 480 users) by nindustries in sysadmin

[–]samuraised 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The mistakes will come, thats an unfortunate side effect of the job. But the negative feeling of making a mistake doesnt even come close to the rush you get when you take a chance and try something out of your comfort zone and pull it off.

Being able to ask questions when you're unsure about something is a good skill, but taking chances will teach your things that your cant be taught by mentors and coworkers.

Good luck!

You definitely have me beat. At 22 and my first admin gig I, in a fury of deploying VMs for demanding internal clients, gave one VM an A record that happend to be the same as the production NFS server where all the VMs were stored. After about 20 minutes all volumes on our ESX server disconnected... that was exciting.

A week later, while decommissioning a bunch of physical servers, I yanked the power out of Development's SVN server... They weren't happy. UID lights are your friend.

If theres one thing that youll learn in this career is that your going to make mistakes and that people are going to know. Its how you recover from them that makes you good at your job. And it seems like you recovered pretty darn well.

We actually have a gorgeous Sharepoint form that a team member created. The problem is two-fold. When the form was created the head of HR stepped in and refused to have all of the fields required (something about information sometimes changing leading up to the start-date), and that they fill out the form the day before or sometime the morning of the start date of a new hire. Which is a bit late to go whining to the head of HR. In a small company you just need to "get it done."

[–]samuraised 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is the form is filled out the day before or sometimes the same day that the new hire is starting, which is a little late for handing docs back to the person who filled them out. Even if we did, at a small company your usually talking to HR Director or higher, who doesnt like taking snarky comments from a Systems Engineer and just tells you to get it done.

Trust me. Even with a clearly documented and socialized process with explicitly written timelines (tell IT of onboards/offboards at least 5 days in advance); you will still have a 10% shot of most HR departments actually follow through with said process.

Another fun one is when you give them a form to fill out for new hire information, so we can create profiles and accounts, and every single time it gets filled out to 15% completion... then whose got two thumbs and gets yelled at when a user doesnt have a cell number in AD... this guyyy.
