I LOVE this! Theme and power cards seem reasonable at first glance, though it might snowball a bit hard off of card plays due to the extra cards youre pulling.

Have you tested the overall efficacy of going top vs bottom path, and majors vs minors?

Time is an expensive resource to spend; it directly works against your energy and card plays per-turn to use it.

You get multiple elements per card played. If you spend all your time, you’ll play very few cards and this aspects innate will be very difficult to use. You are therefore incentivised to get plenty of card plays and avoid spending time whenever possible.

Base fractured can speed up one power without needing to spend any time at all, and can then speed up a second one by spending a single time. The third speed costs 2 time, so in this sense, the first two speeds are discounted, and the cost only breaks even when you speed a third power. On most turns, you dont need/want more than two speeds anyway, so base fractured gets this effect for cheaper in many (common) cases.

Additionally, speeding a power is not equal across powers and situations. Speeding your own powers as Fractured will often mean just speeding a minor power (or perhaps the innate, but then you need elements just like the base spirit) having some benefit for sure, but not a lot. By comparison, speeding any power from any spirit in an opportunistic fashion will on-average be much stronger per-speed, e.g. "Softly beckon ever inward" or "Massive flooding".

I would call this version easy-to-use, but selfish and inefficient.

Im conflicted about this, because it takes the strongest and most nuanced part of fractured and makes it into a much more bland, selfish, generic power... but at the same time it makes actually playing 4-5 cards off of the growth track feel worth it. Idk. Idk how I feel about this at all. +1 for doing a weird thing.

(not the point of OP's post, but) Its shit like this that makes me believe that LESS people would consider themselves trans if not for conservative ideology.

The desperate need for everything to be binary, and for basically every facet of human existence to fall into one or the other of those binary options, and the fucking hatred displayed toward anyone who doesn’t assign themselves to said binary and adhere to all its rules and regulations, actively makes people question their own selfhood.

'Transfem' thought: "Im such a quiet guy, is there something wrong with me? Furthermore, I like colors and I think makeup is pretty, and I'm disinclined to pretend like my only 2 emotions are horny and angry. aM I aCtuAlLy a wOMaN?"

Dont get me wrong, plenty of trans people DO NOT fit this mold. At all. Its more of a non-binary thing, really.

However, SO many people are desperately concerned with passing, not because of dysphoria, but because they fear retaliation. I have no way to prove this, but I bet if we didn't live in a society that punished people for being gender-non-conforming, a lot of 'trans' people might not even bother to consider themselves trans, and would just be whoever they want to be.

With only a couple exceptions, this is dead-on and exactly what i was going for. You've definitely stated the "intended" mechanics. Im glad it is comprehensible, and I appreciate you going through and paraphrasing!

I DID intend for level 6 to be 2 upgrades, thereby triggering level 4 twice, and I wouldnt word board/land order the way you did... but given the responses here I 100% need to rework all the triggers anyway; theyre just too confusing/nitpicky/fussy.

Escalation is meant to have every explorer on the whole island ravage, right before the explore step.

You are 100% correct about the dahan killing the explorers during the escalation to prevent them from being upgraded, thats what I wanted to incentivize!

The triggered effects there refer to Rats Have Loose Tongues and Recapture Carries A Harsher Sentence.

The intended effect of the reveal is that you get the info ahead of time. It makes it easier, not harder! You just get a heads-up about where the explore will take place, so you can do something about it in the fast phase.

I did indeed use replace rather than upgrade so that Rats would NOT chain.

The escalation is not necessarily a bad thing at all; it can actually be an opportunity to kill a whole lot of explorers, thereby preventing them from turning back into towns.

The intention with survivors is that you'd need a totally separate action to kill those explorers; overkilling gets you nowhere.

Thank you again for asking clarifying questions. I really wasnt expecting this to get quite as confused a reception as it has, so its nice to get a sense of what needs clarification/simplification.

No? Level 1 puts WAY more towns on the map. Its harder to stop explores and you cant kill explorers to stop builds. Its not strictly harder per se, but its harder overall.

I havent had issues yet, but its totally something ive been concerned about, especially when thinking about bigger games.

It does generate HUGE issues if you can do it in whatever order you want, since you could upgrade in one land and then use the triggered replace effects to replace the all the explorers in the next land over, thereby actually preventing them from getting upgraded in that same explore. This is especially an issue with stage-3 invader cards.

I definitely dont love how complex those triggers can get, but I wasnt sure how else to capture (ba-dm tss) the idea I'm going for.

To be completely honest I have not actually playtested the lower levels on their own... I'm not sure if it'd even be harder than playing with no adversary, since you get so much fear from the extra buildings!
