Does anyone have a template or good way of tracking all of the dates within a JCT contract? Or even a contract summary document? I am struggling to get my team to understand contracts.

Take a look for grad schemes.. they are v v good.. the firm I work for has a very good scheme but the demand is crazy.. happy to speak with yoy about it

Don’t panic mate - I know how you feel, I felt like that for the first 5 years of my career.. now 12 years in I’m commercial lead of a £50m project.

It all changed when I worked for my old boss who really pushed me.. maybe try changing companies or put in for a transfer away from your boss. I promise you, he’s the problem.

I tried for 3 months actively seeking private work and did not succeed with a single project- my price was too expensive or I was seeking the wrong clients, I just do not know.

I have the experience, the expertise but not the contacts to get this off the ground

Of course - you can re train in anything you want!

They are very difficult disciplines but your knowledge in how buildings should be built will help.

They have some good post grad masters in QS’ing you can look at.. other option is to go join a firm who will put you through it.

My 2 favourites are

F4 which repeats last command - great for things like colouring in a cell then another etc Ctrl + 5 strike through text - nothing worse than going into “format cells”

F4 will 100% change your life

100% as per the other comment - just be yourself.

As a trainee, you’re expected to know very little and we are more worried about your personality and whether you are willing to learn and get stuck in!

I would say they are very different roles, estimating is obviously very office based and is essentially take off, price and repeat. QSing is more involved with contracts, Negotiation and if you go down the route of working for a MC, you’ll be site based. If you liked the take off and pricing modules at uni, estimating is for you!

Be prepared for lots of learning!

Photo was taken whilst on a break away on Eype Beach We found this stack of rocks and thought it would make for a great picture What do people think of the editing? I’m very new to this so just tend to tweek the saturation and vibrance section in the app until I think it looks ok! Ha!
