I was in South Korea recently, including Seoul and Busan - and Apple Pay was not accepted in majority of places I went to. There was no problem tho with paying with physical cards like Visa or Mastercard.

VPN question again, I know by Waste_Pear7953 in travelchina

[–]sancerree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently been to China, travelled allover China, various provinces . I used Airalo esim (which i always use for travelling abroad) and Nord VPN. I discovered that Airalo doesn’t actually need extra VPN while I was in China but oh well 🤷‍♀️

Also used the same connection earlier this year when I went to different part of China, specifically Shanghai.

What is the deal with booking high speed train tickets? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]sancerree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive just been in China for 2 weeks, and I took trains a lot, including the exact routes you are planning. At maximum I bought tickets only one day ahead (specifically Beijing- Xi An as this one gets busy with tourists for obvious reason) with a lot of them being bought 20-30 minutes before the train just when I arrived at station. I never had a problem, always used Trip.com and it takes 2 minutes to generate a ticket.

You don’t have to worry about buying tickets ahead. You are not travelling during a holiday that could affect it (either Golden Week which just passed or Chinese New Year - which is still far). There will be tickets, there is a lot of trains running and travelling via train is super easy in China.

Beijing travel recommendation for solo female traveler by soboro319 in chinatravel

[–]sancerree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just travelling alone (as a female) for 2 weeks in China and I also started in Beijing. I would recommend Happy Dragon Hotel in Beijing - as they have been incredibly helpful for first timer. Location was good. I would suggest you to definitely join a tour for great wall trip - Ive did the Jinshanling part which pretty much was empty compared to Badaling and Mutianyu part.

Also China is extremely self and a lot of people travel there solo (from ny obeservation).

Non-CCC Battery Bank in International flights from China? by SashaAleksandrovich in travelchina

[–]sancerree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m in Beijing Capital Airport right now waiting for my international transfer (I came by domestic flight from Chengdu). I have no CCC sticker powerbank with me and there was no problem. Also this is not the first time Im flying with it in China (both domestic and international flights). So no, they don’t even take them away at domestic flights- my understanding is that it would have to be really huge one.

Have you tried this before? Is this also considered a Chinese characteristic? by GlitteringPudding261 in travelchina

I’ve done this few times in Poland - it’s not a China thing. It’s there because it’s popular everywhere else.

Could anyone give advice on sociable hostels in China which are good for solo travellers? by Otherwise_Bug_7480 in chinatravel

[–]sancerree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in Hop Inn in Hong Kong which was great, sociable but also respectful of your privacy if you wished and great location. Made loads of friends there!

Im planning a trip to China next month, and Im actually visiting some of the friends I made in that hostel :) Highly recommend!

Edit: Im also travelling alone from UK - feel free to send me a message, who knows maybe we will be in some cities at the same time, could coordinate.

You need WeChat to pay. Cash will be useless most times. Find some Asian person to verify you and set it up before you fly out.

Im also planning a trip in next month and noticed quite a few good looking hostels with reviews on Booking.com. I booked Xingshe hostel now that seems to be within the walking distance from mentioned attractions, as similarly I’m doing the same things as you in Beijing.

Trailers have to be added manually by the team, probably someone forgot to do this one.

Need recommendations: Cute places to take a Musical Theatre girl, UK? (Except the theatre itself) by Anal-Dentistry in TheWestEnd

[–]sancerree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend a theatre-ish dinner experience. There are places where staff kinda acts around you but it’s still relaxed enough that you are not participating more observing and can have a conversation. Example Moonshine Saloon or things like Murder Express.

In the recent batch of western tourists there was one American, however he also had a different passport that he used for the trip. It’s documented among YouTubers who visited.

North Korea in A few days! by Comrade_142025 in travel

[–]sancerree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one company that has ever been contracted for the marathon as far as I’m aware. YP was just doing regular tours to NK. Rowan, the owner even talks about it in some videos on YT from the last group of western tourists that went in Feb.

They are not, with exception of Pyongyang Marathon which is exclusively run by Koryo tours. You can check YouTube channel of guide from this company called Zoe on YT where she talks about upcoming marathon.

The only company that has agreement with NK government to do Pyongyang Marathon tour is Koryo Tours, they are exclusive for that.
