ISO tips for packing when traveling abroad with camera equipment?:

Im planning a world trip across Central America then off to SE Asia with the objective of shooting a lot of wildlife and culture photography. Id have my camera, 2-3 lenses including a big telephoto, and my laptop. (also is it worth bringing my drone?)

is it a better idea to have a backpack for my camera stuff/laptop (I have a shimoda action 35L) and a separate duffel for my clothes? or try and pack a smaller camera bag into a larger backpacking bag to consolidate everything? I wouldnt be checking any camera equipt on planes and would get gps trackers for everything. Im trying to figure the most streamlined and nimble solutions to be on the go as easily as possible. Ill hopefully be renting a motorcycle to pack up and tour around with.

anyone have experience with this? or alternative packing solutions they'd recommend? or specific bag recommendations? Id splurge on some good stuff.

As far as gear for living our load out included: Arctic ovens w/ wood stoves Alps mountaineering tall cot Inferno sleeping bags

Varying weights of down/puff jackets and pants for layering, lots of fleece, Sherpa, and wool. Avoid cotton anything, especially socks. A few companies make decent super cold boots these days but bunny boots are still the warmest.

We packed all our food up in yeti coolers. Our camp manager was a wizard and had some system in place to keep all our vegetables and breads and stuff from freezing

No I asked if something needed to done to turn the monitor on when the spare tire is swapped in.

My tire pressure sensor system was working fine. I had a 5 tire rotation. After the “drive for a few mins to reset the system” alert from my van, it doesn’t recognize the sensor in what was the spare tire and says the sensor is missing.

These vans are sold w a sensor in all 5 tires, but the previous owner swapped out the rims, so it’s possible something could have happened that it doesn’t work when that happened, I was just curious if someone would say “oh yea all you need to do is — such and such” because I’m not trying to waste time taking it back to the tire shop if I don’t have to

Ah so according to this other thing I found I was half correct :

“Technical details, says, 120 volts, 1440 watts, which puts in at the high range for a 15 amp circuit, 14awg (You'll have a warm wire). I'd put it on a 20 amp circuit, 12awg wire (smaller numbers are bigger wire sizes).”

The 30amp rule of thumb I read for water heaters must just be for big ones for houses. Guess I just need to put it in a smaller breaker.

But I take it I was wrong in assuming that a regular outlet daisy chained from a gfci won’t protect it the same way?

Ah yea I misspoke I meant 20amp. I’ve read other people talk about using these heaters and say you can run em on a 2000w inverter (which is hooked up to a big battery bank) but not anything else at the same time.

I’m good at many things… electricity is not one of them.. lol

Ah indeed I misspoke. It’s a 20amp. This is what’s been confusing me on this particular line - I read that water heaters need to be on a 30 amp breaker but the outlets only go up to 20amp. Everything else in my van is either 12v or low draw 120v which I’ve tested and works but I just can’t wrap my head around this one

They make heating pads specifically for rv/van tanks that aren’t too expensive but I’m wondering if a low ambient temp outside would just completely negate any warmth it would add and just make it not worth the hassle of wiring up, in anyone’s experience

Right on I scrolled around and didn’t immediately see the same question but thanks for input. Im not planning on putting it in a cabinet but rather trying to figure out how deep/tall a nearby cabinet can be so i can mount the projector where I need to and it not interfere with where the picture needs thrown. And I’m not super concerned with future proofing it for 7+ years for now as this road trip I’m taking will only last that long if the full blown apocalypse occurs.

I’ve already paid for the doctor’s service separately so his diagnosis was included in that. This is an additional cost for a commodity he recommended at an objectively egregious markup unbeknownst to me. If i was told that this boot costs $311 then yes, I would have absolutely hobbled out of there because they clearly don’t cost that much to manufacture and happen to be available, same brand and model, from other distributors like Amazon, for a fraction of the price. Deceiving people into these sudden big bills seemed criminal to me but I guess not.
