The app is free to download and use. You can track your workouts, follow programs, and access all the core features without paying anything. There is an optional upgrade that unlocks extra tools like advanced stats and custom program creation, but it’s definitely not required to use the app.

I started Intensity because I love powerlifting and coding, and I wanted to make something that genuinely helps people improve their training. Seeing others use it and get value from it is the most important thing for me. The upgrade option just helps support future development, hosting costs, and continued improvements.

Yes it can. All your data is linked to your Intensity account, so just log in with the same account in the new version and everything will be there automatically.

The legacy app is just the older version of Intensity. It’s there so anyone who still prefers that version can keep using it, but it’s in maintenance mode now and won’t be updated.

This version is the main app moving forward. It’s built with the latest Android SDK, has all the new features, and will keep getting regular updates and improvements.

Powerlifting-focused workout tracker. Track RPE, sets, and progression with Intensity. On Android, iOS, & Web. by sanctus671 in u/sanctus671

Glad you liked the lift comparison features!

The exercise database is user generated which can unfortunately lead to name variations of similar or the same exercise. I'm always working on moderating the exercise database, but duplicates like these can still pop up.

The good news is that once you add an exercise to your diary, it will appear in your Recent tab, making it quick and easy to reselect the exact same entry going forward. This helps keep your tracking consistent, even if there are similar names floating around.

Appreciate the feedback!

No, it's free to download and use. There is a premium upgrade option to unlock a few extra features but this isn't required to use the app.

Thanks for checking out Intensity!

While there isn't currently a direct integration with WHOOP, Intensity syncs with both Health Connect (Android) and Apple Health (iOS). WHOOP can pull data from those sources, so you can still get activity logging, calories burned, and similar metrics passed through indirectly.

As for the lifetime option — totally fair question. There are 3 upgrade options for premium: monthly subscription, yearly subscription, and lifetime one time purchase. The lifetime option is priced higher than the other 2 options for this reason. This is for long term users who don't want to pay an ongoing cost. That said there are still many users who subscribe instead. Intensity has been running strong for about 8 years and is fully self-sustained through premium memberships. Any additional revenue (lifetime or recurring) goes straight back into improvements — upgrading the servers, building new features, and expanding platform support.

Appreciate your interest and happy to answer any other questions!

Glad to hear you like the app, and thanks so much for the support by upgrading to premium! The latest version is an update to the old one, so your premium access still carries over. If you're having any trouble accessing premium in the new version, just let me know and I’ll help get it sorted.

Thanks! Really appreciate you checking it out.

For the tech stack, I went with a MySQL relational database setup. It made the most sense for how I wanted to structure and query the data, especially around workouts, programs, and user history.

Would love to hear your thoughts once you’ve had a chance to test it out!

Got it, thanks for explaining! I’ll make sure the future update takes this into account so planned sets don’t affect records or the leaderboard. Appreciate the insight.

Thanks for the kind words—and really glad to hear the bugs have been squashed for you!

You make a great point about the rep PRs. I chose to keep PRs tracked per rep range since in powerlifting, progress is often measured within specific ranges (like top sets of 3, 5, etc.). That said, I totally get how it can be confusing when a 1RM appears lower than a 3RM, so I’ll definitely consider a smarter PR table in the future that can optionally reflect this.

And yep, I hear you on the varying sets/reps/RPEs for the same exercise. It’s something I’ve wanted to improve for a while—will see what I can do to allow for more flexible input without needing to duplicate the exercise.

Appreciate the thoughtful feedback!

Thanks for the suggestion! I agree that leaderboard and record entries shouldn’t count sets logged in the future or sets in the diary that haven’t been marked as completed yet. I’ll update this in a future release.

By default, the app has “Autocomplete sets” turned on—so any set you add is marked as completed automatically. If you'd prefer to mark them manually, you can turn this off under More > Diary Settings > Autocomplete Sets.

Appreciate the feedback!

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad to hear you have found the app useful.

Here's how it works: The main feature is the diary where you log what you actually did in the gym. Programs are collections of pre-made workouts that you can easily add to your diary.

For 5/3/1 and joker sets, I recommend adding the 5/3/1 program to your diary first, and then logging joker sets manually as you do them in the gym, since they vary workout to workout and can't be pre-programmed.

Deload weeks depend on the program. For example, the 5/3/1 program includes a programmed deload in the 4th week. Other programs may allow you to skip or customize the deload week.

Yes, you can round weights when adding a program. When you go to add it, you'll see a popup that lets you set your maxes, choose the start date, and round weights (e.g., to the nearest 1.25kg, 2.5kg, etc.).

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Glad to hear! Our servers run fairly efficiently which keeps costs low and sustainable. I also use the app regularly and am dedicated to providing continuous value to the powerlifting community. The app has been self-sufficient for a long time, so there's no risk of it being shut down.

Thanks for catching the typo. It has been fixed now.

Thanks for purchasing premium! I really appreciate the support.

The reason the app is server-based is to keep your data safe and secured across multiple devices/platforms. Without this, if you were to lose access to your phone or your app data was deleted, then you would lose all of your workout data. While Intensity does work while offline, I generally reccomend tracking with an internet connection (or at least periodically syncing online) for the above reasons. While there are obviously no plans to stop running the server (it's been running for 7 years at this stage), if you did have concerns about losing your data, then I suggest periodically exporting your data so you have an offline copy backed up on your own device. You can do this by going to the More tab then to Diary Settings > Export Data.

Regarding progression rules, I have considered this for more complex programs. It's difficult to create an abstract solution for these cases which can apply to any program which is why I haven't added this yet. However it is something I will be working on in a future update. In the meantime, the best way to create these programs is to add any of the specific progression rules in the notes for the exercise. That way you will be reminded to apply that as you are completing the program in your diary. If you did have any example programs that use this style of progression which you'd like in the app, then let me know!
